EZRA POV

As soon as Aiden got back to the pack I took his phone and Jackson’s phone so I could d******d the images onto the computer. I then had to send them through to the werewolf council as proof that the pack had been wiped out. They were going to go through the process of identifying everyone in the photos. Which meant they were going to go to the pack and look through the Alpha’s records of all his pack members.
“Are you alright?” I asked.
“There were so many of them. I mean, I’ve seen dead people before. Dead wolves before. But nothing like that. They were executed… They were gathered up and executed. Aiden said, sitting on the chair.
“I know. It’s the work of the Hunters. They’ve become a lot more ruthless lately. I didn’t know that they had started attacking this far south.” I said.
“How long have they been doing this?” He asked.
“The first pack we found executed like this was about a year ago. But like I said, they weren’t near us and it had nothing to do with us. The werewolf council just sent out the warnings that it was happening but no one has been able to predict where they are going to attack next. There’s no pattern to what their doing.” I said.
“That is their pattern. It’s so the packs are on their own and they can’t get other packs in to help protect them.” Aiden said.
“Yeah. That’s about right.” I said.
“How’s mom?” Aiden said.
“She’ll be alright. She’s with the kids in the dining room. We’re just about to have dinner.” I said.
Aiden refused dinner. He said he couldn’t eat for a while after that. So he headed upstairs and I went to the dining room where Morgan was waiting with the kids.
She still wasn’t really talking to me after what she heard me saying. I guess I did sound like I thought she was imagining it. That she would do anything to have Savannah back.
But I refuse to get excited about it until we are absolutely sure that it’s Savannah.
We sat there and ate quietly before Morgan took the kids upstairs and got them ready for bed.
It always took a couple of hours to get them settled down enough so they would go to sleep and then she came to
our room.
She went to the bathroom and had a shower and then she came into the bedroom and got dressed for bed.
She sat on her side of the bed and grabbed her laptop and she was straight back onto the dark web.
“The Silver River Pack is gone, Completely wiped out.” I said. And she looked up at me with shock on her face and
a bit of fear.
“They’re only a couple of hours from here. What are they doing this far south?” She asked.
“I don’t know. But they are moving this way.” I said.
“They attack us and then they wipe out that pack. Why did they only just attack us? Why didn’t they kill anyone?”
I asked.
“I’ve been asking myself the same question. And I think it’s because we are a lot bigger than they thought.” He said. But she looked at me like she was really thinking about something.

“That doesn’t make any sense. They don’t attack unless they know what they’re dealing with. Even people on the dark web have been saying the same thing. There are very few survivors and that’s because they managed to hide really well or they weren’t at the pack on the day of the attack. But they always go in prepared.” She explained.
Well, now that got me thinking. Why didn’t they try to kill us all. They just attacked while that girl tried to sneak into the packhouse. Morgan is the one that stopped her. Nothing about what they were doing is making sense.
We finally went to bed after a lot of discussion and trying to figure out what the hell the Hunters were up to, there was no reasoning that we could think of.
I woke up in the middle of the night and Morgan wasn’t next to me.
I got out of bed and I checked in on the kids before I walked downstairs.
but
She wasn’t in the living room, the kitchen or on the veranda. But when I walked back inside I saw the basement door open.
So I walked downstairs and Morgan was there riffling through a few boxes that we had stacked up against the back wall.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“That girl. She was headed for the packhouse. The rest were there to distract us. I’ve been watching the surveillance tapes from that night. And I know that they were distracting us while she came for the packhouse.” Morgan said.
“You think she was after something.” I said.
“There’s only one thing that she could have been after.” Morgan said, getting to the bottom box and she opened it and threw the newspaper and everything out of the way.
She pulled out an orb that had been hidden in our basement for years.
It was one of several artifacts that had been found a few years ago. But we agreed
to keep them all separated because if they are together they are dangerous. Deadly for werewolves.
It was all making sense now. Why they didn’t kill us. They wanted the orb and she was the one that was sent to get it. But Morgan caught her first.
“They are using Savannah against us so she can get her hands on this. They know that she is the only thing that will distract me or that could possibly earn my trust.” Morgan said.
Suddenly, what she was saying was actually making sense. It was still a little hard for me to believe that Savannah is a Hunter, but it was definitely making sense to
me now.
I just pulled Morgan closer to me and I hugged her.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry that I didn’t believe you.” I said.
“I knew that it was her the second I looked at her. I don’t know how I knew, I just
did.” Morgan said.
“You think that folklore is right?” I asked.
“Well, there’s a lot of things that haven’t made sense in my life. This is just another
to add to the list.” She said.
“Well, Aiden said it himself. If it was going to be true, you were the one that was going to prove it.” I said. And I felt her tighten her grip around me.
