Chapter 145
After I had that conversation with Jason, he wouldn’t tell me exactly what was
happening to Savannah, but he said that he was willing to help me help her find out who she really is. And that was all I was hoping for.
I know that being around werewolves was the only way that she was going to awaken her wolf, so that’s something that we needed to worry about.
We had to hurry up and try to figure out how the hell we were going to plant a whole heap of werewolves around her while she was stuck at the base all the time.
And there was no doubt that they had ways of finding out if there were werewolves hanging around.
Jason seemed genuine in wanting to help her. But he was still a hunter which meant that I had to be weary. I didn’t know if this was a trap that they were trying to set for me or what. But I knew that I had to be really careful going forward with this. And I wouldn’t be able to do it alone. I would have to make sure that someone knew where I was going to be every step of the way. Just in case he tried to double cross
me.
I wasn’t as stupid as people thought I was. And if he knew anything about my reputation, then he would already know not to fuck with me or my family. Because that’s the quickest way to get yourself killed.
If only I knew that 22 years ago.
When I got back to the packhouse I went up to my room and when I turned the light on I almost jumped out of my skin when I saw Aiden standing there.
“Where the hell have you been? I’ve been calling, mind linking, everything.” He said.
“I left my phone here and I blocked out the mind link. I went for a walk so I could clear my head.” I said.
“Why did you send the south patrol to the north border?” He asked.
“Because I heard that there was some commotion there.” I said.
“No. There was nothing going on.” He said.
“Oh, sorry. My mistake.” I said.
“What the hell are you up to?” He asked.
“It’s late Aiden and I’m going to bed.” I said, walking towards the bathroom.
“Mom. I hope you know what the hell you are doing.” He said, standing in my way. “First of all, I don’t answer to you and secondly I am still your mother and your Luna and you will not tell me what to do. Do you understand me?” I asked.
“Yeah. I understand.” He said.
“Good. Now get out of my room.” I said.
Aiden stood there staring at me for a moment, knowing that I was up to something, but he didn’t say anything else before he walked out of the room.
I went to have a shower and I got ready for bed, but when I went into the bedroom there were a dozen missed calls from Ezra.
So I grabbed the phone and I called him back.
“Hello.” He answered.
“Hi. I was in the shower.” I said.
“What the hell is going on? And you know that we vowed never to keep secrets from each other.” Ezra said.
“I wasn’t going to keep this from you. I wasn’t going to call you until tomorrow. I thought you would be either busy or sleeping right now.” I said.
“Alright. I’m listening.” He said.
“I got a letter from someone telling me about Savannah. I met with the guy and apparently he’s friends with her. They call her Lilly now but he said that she’s in trouble. And Re wants me to get her out of where
is. He didn’t tell me anything too much information at the moment but I’m meeting with him again. After you come back. I made that clear. He knows that she’s my daughter and half werewolf. He’s gonna help us.” I said.
“Are you sure this isn’t a trap?” He asked.
“I was wondering the same thing myself. But I really don’t think so. He’s worried about her. He’s in love with her.” I said.
“And he wants to get her out of there. How does he know all about her? I don’t think their superiors would be going around telling everyone that she’s a werewolf.” Ezra said.
“Apparently she’s been trying to
way and
track down her real parents but she wasn’t getting anywhere. Whenever she thought she was getting close, something would get in the way and then all the evidence would O disappear. Their trainer said that he was going to try and find out, but nothing has come of that as well. I’m worried about that trainer. Jason’s face changed when he started talking about him. I think he’s the one that’s hurting her.” I
explained.
“Alright. Well, you’re not meeting him alone again.” He said.
“I wasn’t alone this time. I had Avery on mind link. Just in case. I’m not that stupid
Ezra. She knew to call Aiden if anything went south.” I explained.
“Alright. Good. You do have a history of doing things that you might not think through.” He said.
“I’m not 18 years old anymore.
Would you just trust me? I’ve got four other kids to worry about now If it was just Aiden, well, he’s old enough to take care of himself. The others aren’t. I wouldn’t do that to them.” I said.
“I know. I’ll be back as soon as possible. And we’ll go and meet this guy together.” He said.
“Alright. I’ll see you when you get back. I hope that council doesn’t go too hard on you.” I said.
“They won’t. I was just sent to investigate. It’s the same as what Aiden found at the
last pack. Everyone was herded into the meeting hall and executed. Men, women and children.” He said.
“We’ve really gotta find these bastards and stop them.” I said.
“I couldn’t agree more. I have to go. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” He said.
“Alright. Be careful.” I said.
I put the phone back on the bedside table and I sat on the bed looking out the window at the full moon outside and I couldn’t help but wonder what Savannah was doing right now.
Is she staring at the moon as well?
I mean, she was raised among humans but there’s always a part of a werewolf who knew who they were. Deep down. And I know that she has to know she’s different from all her other soldiers.
But it sounds like she was raised on that base and never really had any parents.
That made me angry. They couldn’t even treat her like a child. They treated her like a soldier from the time they took her.
She never got to experience anything that a child should experience. Love, support, kindness. She was trained. And that had to stop. She had to know what it was like to have a family.
