Chapter 153

Justin took me to the mess hall but there didn’t seem to be too many people in there because they’d already had lunch and gotten back to work.

So we got some food and we sat down at a table and Justin started explaining how this whole place worked.

Captain Stevens never wanted a soldier to take a break. We needed to be working out or doing some sort of job around the base all day. From the time we finish breakfast until just before dinner.

I had already been through this sort of crap. It felt like boot camp all over again and I didn’t think it was really fair. Not that I had a choice in the matter. I was sent here against my will and Captain Stevens is the one that runs this place. So whatever he says goes.

As long as it’s not cruel and unusual punishment. So I guess there’s nothing I can do about it. I just had to show these people what I was made of. And they were definitely going to find out what I was made of. I was going to see to it.

“Listen, don’t worry about what people know. They were going to find out anyway. No one can keep a secret around here.” He said.

“Really? So, does that mean the greens know what the blacks do?” I asked.

“Okay. That’s pretty much the only secret that’s kept around here. We don’t talk about it publicly. But the greens know that we are special forces and go on secret missions. They don’t need to know the details.”

“I saw all the soldiers outside there. How the hell is anyone going to justify a 16 year old being here?” I asked.

“They’ve been told that you aced Military academy and they wanted to send you into training as soon as possible. Proper training.” He said.

Wow, they really have thought of everything to explain why I’m here.

“How many missions do we actually go on?” I asked. And he stopped to think about it for a moment.

“It’s hard to say. Sometimes it’ll be months before we’re deployed. Sometimes it’ll only be days between deployments. It’s always in this country though and they usually when we find big enough packs that we consider a threat.” He explained.

“So, you don’t attack small packs?” I asked.

“Yeah. I mean, we attack the ones where we know we can wipe them out. The really big ones, that’s usually a team effort between several bases And that takes weeks of planning. If not months. He said.

So I nodded my head and it got me thinking about a certain pack that I was really interested in.

“Have you heard of the Midnight Pack?” I asked. And he looked at me with a strange look on his face.

He looked around to make sure that no one else was around that could hear us talking and they weren’t. Everyone that had been in the mess hall had left and now it was just us.

I looked around as well and I made sure that everything was alright before I even asked the question.

“No one goes after that pack. Not yet anyway.” Justin said.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“They are the biggest pack in the country. Luna Morgan is the Alpha of her former pack. So they basically rule two packs. And if they are under threat they will band together and we won’t get out of there alive. The Captain’s main goal is to take down that pack. But he has to make sure that everyone who goes in there knows exactly what they’re doing and that’s why we’re training the way we are. Because the Midnight pack is our goal.” He whispered while leaning across the table.
