Chapter 176

The following morning I was at least allowed to have breakfast before Justin took me to the shooting range and I had to walk normally and just work through the pain. I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of thinking that he was actually getting to me. I couldn’t do that. I was too stubborn for that.

We got to the shooting range this time and I grabbed a gun and when the siren went off, I went into the course.

I knew that the targets moved all the time but this was different.

I couldn’t find any targets at all. There weren’t any werewolves or any victims to save. I couldn’t see anything to shoot.

But suddenly I got this really sharp pain in the back of my leg and I fell to the ground.

Justin walked up behind me holding a strange looking gun and he pulled a dart out of my leg.

“Feels like a real gun shot. It’ll wear off in a couple of minutes, but that’s what it feels like to be shot.” He said.

“Why?” I asked.

“Because now you have to try and take me down.” He said.

I stood up and looked at him in confusion and a little bit of shock.

We were going to be engaging in a fire fight here. But he took that gun off of me and he gave me one of those dart guns.

I guess he didn’t trust that I wasn’t going to shoot him with a live round.

So I went back to the beginning of the course and when the siren went off I started moving a lot slower through the course and started listening to every little sound and being on high alert to everything that was going on around me.

It was a closed course today which meant no one was allowed in to watch from the gallery. It was just me and Justin.

He was good though. He took me down time after time without me knowing exactly where he was and I was getting really fed up with it after a few hours.

He wasn’t going to let me leave here either until I was able to take him down.

So I started again once the pain wore off from the last dart that I took in the back and I was getting more and more pissed off the further into the course I went. Suddenly, I heard footsteps. They were close but not in the same room as me.

I thought I was imagining it. No one can hear footsteps in this course. I know that I definitely couldn’t.

Suddenly I turned around and Justin was just coming around the corner and I shot him in the stomach, causing him to go down.

I tried to ignore everything else that was confusing me right now, so I dropped the

gun at Justin’s feet as I walked past him and I walked out of the course.

I walked outside into the fresh air and I sat on the ground, leaning against the

building and I took my boots off to see what my feet looked like after being on my feet all day again today.

As soon as I took the boots off I realized there wasn’t any pain. But I thought that I was just blocking it out.

But as soon as I took my boots off I stared at my feet, confused and really perplexed.

My feet were completely fine. There wasn’t a single mark on them.

Last night they were covered in blisters to the point where I could barely walk and they were bleeding and everything. I had to throw my socks out because they were soaked in blood.

Was I just dreaming all of that? I

mean,

exha know that I was really

exhausted when I got back to the bunk house, but I know was in pain. That was obvious content belongs fo FindNovel.net

This doesn’t make any sense to me. How the hell can there not be any marks there at all?

It wasn’t long before Ben came over to me and I quickly put my boots back on.

I didn’t want him asking any questions about how badly my feet are and I definitely

don’t want him looking at them.

“Is everything alright?” He asked.

“Yeah. I took the bastard down so I could leave.” I said.

“Why is he doing this? I mean, what does he hope to accomplish?”

“I don’t know. Maybe we should get out of here before he comes out and gives me something else to do.”

“That’s a good idea.” He said, helping me up. And we started walking towards another building.

There wasn’t anyone in the library so I started looking through the books because I was sick of reading that one book that I had been reading.

I wanted to find something else so I finally found one and I sat at the table with Ben.

I was going to check the book out, but right now, I just wanted to sit for a minute.

I didn’t know what was going on

with me. But there was too much My feet healing, Justin acting like an asshole, having sex with Ben Ben asking me about leaving the

Hunters.

There was so much crap going on in my head right now that I didn’t know what to

think. So I just wanted to sit here and not think about anything.

I think Ben understood that, because he stayed with me but he didn’t try to fill the silence with conversation.

He just sat there with me, not saying anything. And it was a really comfortable silence.

I did everything I could to avoid Justin for the rest of the day, and I decided that I wasn’t going to train any more today.

I don’t think I should have to.

Not after what I’ve done over the last couple of days.

“I really want to take you out of here if Justin is going to keep doing this.” Ben said

as we were walking to the mess hall.

“I know. But we both know that’s not going to happen.” I said. And he nodded his

head.

“I know. But why are you so important to them? I mean, I’ve never heard of an army

base adopting a child before.” He said.

“I haven’t met anyone else that

they’ve done it to. I don’t know why they did it to me. Maybe I’m the test subject. If it works out with me then that’s how they’re going to get their soldiers from now on.” I suggested.

“Haven’t you ever questioned it?”

“You learn pretty quickly not to question their decisions. I’ve just accepted it.” I said.

“Well, I still want to take you away from here.” He said. But I just looked at him and smiled.

“Thank you for caring so much. No one ever has before.” I said.
