“Is she out of her mind?”
“Daring to call out Silver Snake like that, doesn’t she know who’s backing him?”
“She might not make it out of here in one piece.”
Silver Snake’s expression had turned glacial as he slowly took his seat. “Very well. Since you’re so eager,” he said darkly, “let’s double the stakes.” He flicked his wrist at the dealer. “Deal the cards.”
Phillip, still crumpled on the floor, trembled as he cried out, “Rylie, are you out of your mind? You don’t even know how to play, and how are you going to gamble?”
Rylie didn’t even flinch. Her eyes slid toward him with icy indifference. “Aren’t I buying you time?” she replied flatly. “Or would you rather get dragged off and lose your hands right away? You know what you can do now — do it.”
Phillip fell silent. He believed her. Fumbling with his phone, he sent a message to his family. But deep down, he knew the Kirk family alone wouldn’t be enough to pull them both out of this mess. His thoughts scrambled, then landed on something. He and Fred had a pending deal with the Owen family. The Kirks had Felix’s assistant’s number. That was the only angle left.
Phillip immediately sent a message to Leland, urging him to contact Alistair Townley without delay.
When Leland read it, his head nearly split from the pressure. What was Phillip thinking? Fifteen million dollars? Was he trying to bankrupt them? He dialed Alistair in a rush, his voice tight with urgency. “Rylie’s at a casino. She’s gambling over fifteen million. You need to do something. Now.”
On the other end of the line, Alistair stiffened. As Felix Owen’s trusted aide stationed in Crolens, he instantly grasped the severity. “Mr. Felix is en route to Ostium for business,” he said, his tone grave. “Mr. Marcus and Mr. Deandre are both overseas. As for Mr. Kendrick—he’s been ill. We must not alarm him.” Leland clenched his jaw. “Then what the hell do we do?” he demanded. “Rylie carries the Owen bloodline. Are you really going to just leave her there? Deandre is entangled in syndicate affairs, and Marcus is deep in charity work in Krottol. The Owen family’s core members can’t return on such short notice.”
After a moment of deliberation, Alistair made his decision. He contacted Felix, his tone cautious but firm. “Mr. Owen, I heard from Leland that Miss Owen doesn’t even know how to gamble. She could lose everything. Should I bring funds to the casino to support her?”

Felix’s brow furrowed. “Rylie wouldn’t step into something like this without a reason. If she’s chosen to play, then let her. Bring the money, let her play. We can afford the losses.”
After ending the call, Felix leaned back in thought, concern clouding his usually composed expression. His mind quickly turned to Brad, who had been staying in Crolens recently.
Though he was well aware of Brad’s feelings for Rylie and didn’t want him to get close to her, Felix also trusted the man’s integrity. If anything went wrong, Brad was the only one he believed capable—and willing—to bring Rylie home safely.
Brad received the call while watching the elders play chess in the community near the military compound. The reason he was here was that he wanted to know more about Rylie.
