She lowered her head and fidgeted with her clothes. “It’s okay, but we need to buy textbooks and pay for meals, and Mom doesn’t have much money.” Then she quickly added, “But I’ve already got a plan. I’ll work at a café after school to earn a little. I won’t bother you. I’m fine living with the Morgans.”
He frowned slightly. “If you need something, tell the butler. My family can cover whatever you need. Money isn’t an issue.”
She nodded, then said with quiet resolve, “Brad, you’ve been so kind to me. In the future, I promise I’ll repay you. Maybe after I graduate from the university and secure a job.”
Rylie remained silent, merely gazing out the window. Listening to Zaylee’s tone, tinged with admiration, Rylie easily pieced together the situation from just a few words.
She never imagined Sean would want Brad to marry a girl like Zaylee, who was still in high school.
Even so, Brad’s striking looks had a way of catching anyone’s attention, no matter their age.
“Don’t overthink it. This kind of money means nothing to me,” Brad said in a flat tone.
What he truly meant was that he didn’t see Zaylee as anything more than a charitable cause, as if helping her and her mother was no different from rescuing a stray left out in the cold.
Zaylee, still young and naive, couldn’t read between the lines. To her, the Morgan family’s wealth and reputation were proof that she needed to work even harder if she wanted to stay and one day become his bride.
The car rolled up to a sprawling estate in Serenity Manor. Zaylee’s eyes wandered over the grand houses around them. “This doesn’t look like the Morgan home.”
“It’s my home,” said Rylie from the back seat.
Zaylee jerked in surprise, not realizing someone was sitting there. She turned, and her breath caught.
Moonlight spilled through the window, highlighting Rylie’s delicate features. She leaned against the leather seat, her red dress glowing like a flame against the dark night. A slit in the skirt showed a flash of long legs and the sparkle of a diamond anklet around her ankle.

Zaylee unconsciously held her breath. Rylie’s beauty felt unreal, almost otherworldly.
“Thanks.” Rylie’s lips parted slightly as she pushed open the door with a smooth grace that seemed straight out of a movie. The sound of her heels clicking against the marble ground made Zaylee instinctively glance down at her mud-stained sneakers. Who was this woman?
A pang of unease stirred in Zaylee’s chest. Next to Rylie, she felt like she didn’t stand a chance.
“You stay here,” Brad told Zaylee before stepping out of the car. He walked over to Rylie and gently held her wrist. “Should I carry you?”
“Why?” Rylie asked with a puzzled look.
He glanced at her heel. “You’ve got a…”
But to her, this pain was nothing. The paths in the estate were spotless, cleaned daily by the staff. She slipped off her heels, picked them up, and stood barefoot. “I can walk. You should take the girl home. She probably hasn’t even finished her homework after walking this far, and she needs to rest early.”
