Donald’s condition was still critical, and he could require emergency intervention at any moment. These situations required unanimous agreement from the family on whether to resuscitate or not.
The Bishop family insisted on not intervening. Penelope insisted on saving him.
As they stood at a stalemate, Donald suddenly made a choking sound and vomited into his oxygen mask. The ventilator began to blare with sharp alarms.
Penelope rushed forward, simultaneously pressing the call button for a doctor and pulling off Donald’s mask. She frantically cleared the vomit from around his mouth and nose, trying to minimize aspiration.
Unable to find anything to use, she used her bare hands. It was filthy and foul- smelling, but this was her father, and her only fear was not being able to save him.
Doctors and nurses hurried in. Seeing the situation, they immediately began emergency procedures.
Penelope was pushed to the back of the crowd. She stared in shock at Donald, completely unconscious, as the medical team used every means to revive him. It suddenly occurred to her that she had never once called him “Dad p>

The comment came from Ruby Bishop, Jonas’s only daughter, who was pinching her nose in disgust.
Jonas shot his daughter a glare. “If you think it’s so disgusting, then get out p>

Ruby stomped her foot in frustration, but Mrs. Tess Bishop pushed her out of the
room.
“Your uncle is being resuscitated. Show some respect p>
Ruby pouted. “I just can’t stand that Penelope. She’s not even a Bishop, what gives her the right to act so high and mighty in here p>
Mrs. Tess Bishop pulled her daughter further down the hall and poked her on the forehead. “You, you’re just as clueless as your father. Always sucking up to the main branch of the family. What has it ever gotten you p>
“She’s always been nice to me p>
“Nice my foot. Is she willing to give you any shares in the Bishop Group p>
“Your grandfather favors Yvonne. He’s giving her the company and the
shares, while you and your brothert
get nothing. Now this Penelope. shows up. Let her raise hell. If she tears the main family apart, we might just come out ahead p>

Mrs. Tess Bishop glanced back at Penelope in the hospital room. “She’s not as simple as she looks p>
After the emergency resuscitation,
Donald’s condition stabilized.

second surgery. The decision to
proceed once again, rested with the family.
“Penelope, you saw how much pain my father was in! Do you want to make him suffer even more? Why do you hate him so much!” Yvonne screamed at Penelope, her eyes red.
“If he were conscious, he wouldn’t want another surgery. He’s in too much pain!” Mrs. Tess Bishop was sobbing so hard she could barely stand and had to be supported by Jonas.
Jonas sighed repeatedly. “If the surgery could guarantee Donald would wake up, that would be one thing. But… the doctor said the best-case scenario is a vegetative state p>
“I can’t bear to see him like this. We are not doing the surgery, absolutely not!” Mrs. Tess Bishop told the doctor.
The doctor looked back at Penelope, waiting for her opinion.
Penelope had also witnessed Donald’s agony, and for a moment, she hesitated. As Judy said, if Donald were conscious, would he want another surgery, only to become a person who couldn’t move, open his eyes, or speak?
