Chapter 229
Dorothea had no clue Albert had been there. She didn’t even remember falling asleep. By the time she woke up, Latham was already gone.
She reached for her phone and found his message waiting.
[I have a signing this morning, should be done by afternoon. Go to the hotel restaurant for lunch or order room service. Wait for me, babe p>
The ache in her body came rushing back, every muscle sore, as if she’d been taken apart and put back together wrong. This time, though, she had been the one to make the first move.
One reckless decision. Endless regret.
It was already eleven, and hunger was gnawing at her. She thought about just ordering room service, but the place was a mess. She’d have to call housekeeping, or there was no way she’d get any sleep tonight.
After a quick tidy and pressing the housekeeping button, Dorothea headed out.
She didn’t bother with the hotel’s main restaurant. Instead, she scrolled through reviews on her phone and picked a seaside place with good ratings. She chose a quiet corner by the window, wanting nothing more than to watch the waves and be left alone.
Of course, nothing ever goes that smoothly.
Albert spotted her almost immediately. His eyes went cold as he walked straight to her table.
Dorothea’s face turned icy the moment she saw him.
“Mind if I join you?” Albert asked, but he was already pulling out the chair and sitting down, not even waiting for her answer.
“Dorothea, you really have the appetite to sit here and eat?” he asked.
Albert let out a short, mocking laugh. “Do you even know your husband’s cheating on you p>
He leaned in, voice dripping with
sarcasm. Yeah, just last night, in the presidential suite. He brought a
woman back Just the two of them, one allight. For sure you can imagine the rest.” S to’
Dorothea actually laughed, more from frustration than anything. “Albert, are you jealous p>
Albert frowned. “Why would I be jealous? Am I supposed to be jealous your husband’s cheating on you p>
“You know, people only get this rude when they’re jealous,” she said, her smile cool. “And what if the woman Latham brought back last night was mexit you’re going to try to affry things up at least put in some effort. Don’t embarrass yourself p>
Albert’s breathing got heavier. “Fine, let’s say it was you. But you think I’m trying to get between you two and Latham isn’t? Did you know, on your birthday one year, he went out of his way to keep me from coming home to see you? He actually made it snow in Apex just so I couldn’t get to you. Dorothea, Latham isn’t as simple as you think. He married you just to get at me. You’re not his match p>
Dorothea picked up her water glass and tossed it straight at his mouth.
“Shut up, Albert. I’m not an idiot. I’m not falling for such a lame attempt to turn us against each other p>
“You really expect me to believe Latham created a snowstorm just to keep you away? Did I hear that right, or did you hit your head? That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard p>
“And let’s not even start on how Latham would know you were in Apex, or what superpowers he’d need to make it snow. You say it was my birthday? Then tell me, who were you with in Apex, really p>
“The only one who cheated between us is you. But honestly, it doesn’t matter anymore. Just thinking about the fact that I ever liked you makes me sick p>
