At four on the dot, Latham waltzed into Dorothea’s office like he owned the place.
This time, Dorothea didn’t even bother to scold him. She just raised an eyebrow. “You’re here to pick me up this early p>
“Yeah. Remember Levi, the guy who got married recently? He invited us out to dinner. I figured I’d bring you along p>
Dorothea hesitated. “Isn’t this a reunion with your classmates? Maybe I should sit this one out p>
She’d gone to the wedding, sure, but who actually brings their wife to a regular hangout?

Latham leaned in close, his eyes softening, trying to look pathetic. “Babe, they’re all bringing their wives. You’re not going to leave me as the only one by myself, are you? I’m too handsome for my own good. There are so many flirty women out there. Don’t you want to keep an eye on me p>
Dorothea gave him a gentle shove. “If you’re that easy to steal, I don’t want you anyway p>
Latham brushed a kiss against the corner of her mouth. “No one can steal me. You’re the only one who gets to tempt me p>
Dorothea just stared at him, speechless.
Dorothea had totally believed everyone else would be bringing a partner. Arm in arm with Latham, she opened the door to the private room, only to freeze in place.
Not a single other person had brought a date.
She shot Latham a look, silently asking for an explanation.
Latham just shrugged. “Wait, none of you brought your wives? I thought that was the plan. Oops, my mistake p>
The whole room was silent.
Who was it that kept insisting in the group chat that no one should bring their partner tonight?
Honestly, they all wanted to call Latham out on the spot.
Dorothea felt awkward, but Latham acted like nothing was wrong.

Once everyone was settled, Latham tapped the table. “Guys, Dorothea and I are trying for a baby. If you’re going to smoke, can you do it outside p>
This move was basically routine whenever Latham and Dorothea went anywhere together.

She really didn’t want to deal with secondhand smoke anyway.
Luckily, not many of Latham’s friends were heavy smokers, and even those who were could handle skipping for a meal.
“Dorothea, Latham’s crazy about you. I’ve never seen him go out of his way for anyone like this,” someone commented.

Everyone at the table mentally rolled their eyes.
Dorothea just ate quietly, listening to the group joke and tease each other.
Every now and then, she glanced at Latham’s face, seeing the flush on his cheeks and a hint of tipsiness in his eyes.
He seemed even more lively than usual and definitely had a few drinks.
“I’m going to the bathroom,” he said.
Latham instinctively reached for Dorothea’s hand. “Come with me p>

“Dorothea, stay put. I’ll go with Latham,” Levi called out, volunteering.
Latham shot Levi a look, but went along anyway.
There was an empty seat between Dorothea and Lanny. He hesitated for a second, unsure if Dorothea had overheard what happened at the last wedding, but decided to say something anyway.
“Dorothea, about the wedding… don’t get the wrong idea about what I said to Edmond. Three years ago, Latham came to me for a tattoo. He had your name inked p>
Dorothea smiled softly. “I know. You mean that tattoo is from three years ago p>
“Yeah, three years ago. It was pouring rain that day.” Lanny realized he’d said too much and quickly added, “But Dorothea, don’t tell Latham I told you. He’ll kill me if he finds out p>
Dorothea looked thoughtful, her smile casual. “Don’t worry. I won’t say a word p>
