Mamie pressed her lips together as she looked at Scott, who clearly wasn’t open to discussion. Honestly, a guy like Scott really was the ideal husband—on paper, at
least.
But right now, she just couldn’t bring herself to care about that.

Scott gave her a small smile. “I’ve still got some work to finish up. Go get some rest p>
Mamie glanced at the laptop bag by his feet. “Okay, thanks p>
Once she walked away, Scott opened his laptop and checked his email.
There it was a full report, waiting in his inbox.
Seven years ago, right after she’d had her baby, Mamie left the country with the people who were supposed to be her adoptive parents. She hadn’t come back once. Not even for her parents’ memorial.
Scott had never been able to figure out how Mamie could be so heartless. Even if there wasn’t any love between them, how could she not come back to see Garth, not even once?
He only found out the truth recently. She’d lost her memory. She’d forgotten him, forgotten Garth, and even forgotten her real parents.
Early the next morning, Claire hurried to the hospital. When she walked into the room, it was Mamie’s boyfriend she found.

Mamie pulled on her coat. “Is my dad awake p>

She nodded, then remembered.
“Scott, you should go home and get some rest. Sorry, I can’t believe you stayed up all night. Why didn’t you wake me? you still have to work today p>
Scott did have things to do. He nodded. “Call me if you need anything. If I don’t answer, just reach out to my assistant p>
Mamie looked at him for a moment, then let it go. “Okay. I’m going back to the room p>
Just as Mamie walked in, Josh woke up.
“Thank God, you’re finally awake! You scared Mamie and me half to death p>
Josh managed a weak smile. “I’m alright p>
Claire started fussing right away. “I keep telling you to drive slower, but you never listen. From now on, let the driver take you. I can’t take these scares anymore p>
Mamie stood quietly, lips pressed tight, listening to Claire’s worried rambling.
Josh noticed her expression. “Mamie, are you mad at me too p>
She shook her head. “No, Dad. I’m not mad. I just wanted to ask… where are my real parents p>
Josh froze for a second and glanced at his wife. “Did you tell her p>
Claire looked uneasy. “I didn’t say it outright. You needed a blood
