The driver paused when he saw Mamie, but didn’t stop her. He knew her. She was Scott’s girlfriend after all.
Mamie knelt down to look at Garth’s sweet, innocent face. Did he look like her? Maybe, just a bit.
She found herself reaching out. “Garth, I think you’ve got something in your hair.” She quickly plucked a strand from his head, hiding it in her palm.

Garth had no idea how strange her actions were. He just felt happy, glowing from the inside out. But before he could really bask in it, she said, “Garth, I have something to do today. I’ll come have dinner with you next time, okay p>
“Aw, you’re leaving already?” Garth pouted, but quickly brightened. “Mamie, you have to come to my house for dinner next time p>

Mamie smiled and agreed, then slipped back into her car. She carefully took out a clean tissue and placed the thin, black hair inside.
She took a deep breath and drove off, following the map on her phone.
By the time she walked into the testing center, her hands were shaking. She handed over the two samples and the paperwork. “How soon can I get the results p>

Scott’s brow twitched, but he didn’t argue with his son.
If she didn’t like me, how did you end up here? There was no point in fighting about

Instead, he called the driver in and
asked for every detail about Mamie’s visit. From the way she’d hugged Garth to the way she played with his hair Scott picked up on all the little clues.
Looked like she was finally getting close to the truth.
Scott went upstairs in a good mood, the smile on his face leaving Garth completely confused.
Did he just make Dad lose it? He’d said Mamie didn’t like Dad, so why was Dad grinning like that?
Dorothea had spent the whole morning being stalled by Bonita, who still refused to sign the contract.
