“You really should clear things up with Linda so she doesn’t get the wrong idea p>
“She only listens to my dad,” Latham said, his voice low and a little bored. “Why don’t you go talk to him instead p>
Dorothea pressed her lips together and fell silent. She shouldn’t have bothered wasting her breath with him anyway.
Tonight, Scott had asked Latham to bring her home for dinner.
The moment Dorothea stepped inside, she spotted Latham’s famous older brother lounging on the couch. Scott looked polished, almost elegant, his features sharper than Latham’s. He wore silver glasses and carried himself with a kind of icy authority. Just being in the same room as him made it easy to see why Garth was a little scared of his dad.
“Scott,” Dorothea said sweetly.
He nodded at her. “Latham told me about what happened yesterday. Thank you p>
Then he turned to his son. “Garth, try not to bother Dorothea with this kind of thing next time, alright p>
Garth pouted. “But you weren’t here p>
Scott replied coolly, “You know my secretary’s number p>
“Alright, that’s enough,” Ladd cut in, sounding exasperated. “You’re his dad. You can’t just hand everything off to your secretary. You should spend more time with Garth. That’s what really matters.” He huffed. “Or just find him a mom already p>
Garth nodded in total agreement, but the second he caught his dad’s stern look, his smile disappeared.
Suddenly, Dorothea realized Latham was way easier to get along with than Scott. Scott was so serious. Who could ever be his wife?
Latham shot her a mischievous look and she quickly ducked her head, focusing on her food.
Scott watched all of this quietly, his gaze unreadable.
After dinner, Garth tugged Dorothea outside to play in the garden.
Scott and Latham stayed behind in the study.
“You really like her, don’t you?” Scott asked.
Latham leaned against the window, a smile playing on his lips, eyes following Dorothea as she ran around outside with Garth.
“Yeah p>
Scott’s lips twitched in a rare almost-smile, but he let it go.
“Take care of her. I’m flying to Polaris tomorrow, but I should make it back for your wedding p>
“Another inspection?” Latham asked.
“Yeah, this one’s a month long p>
Latham let out a soft sigh. “Are you really not going to find a mom for Garth? Things worked out this time, but those kids’ words still hurt him He acts all tough but
Scott’s eyes grew distant. “I know what I’m doing p>
Latham knew better than to argue. In this family, nobody was more stubborn than Scott.
Albert had just wrapped up a dinner
meeting and, for some reason,
couldn’t stop thinking about running into Dorothea at Jim’s school yesterday. He’d figured she’d call
and ask him for help by how but hrs phone had stayed silent.

Ada sighed. “That’s what I heard. They have a ton of connections. Even Adelina got replaced p>
Albert’s eyes narrowed. That kid had called Dorothea ‘Aunt Dorothea p>
So… had Dorothea really landed herself someone powerful?
