He stood at the door, his brow etched with lines from years of frowning.
His eyes were bloodshot as he looked at me, and when he looked at my brother, his gaze filled with guilt.
He strode forward, wanting to take my hand, but seemed at a loss.
“Cora, you’re finally here p>
“You look much more worn out than in the photos. It’s my fault for making you three suffer p>
He patted my shoulder, his eyes red.
“Now that you’re all home, that’s wonderful. I absolutely will not let you suffer again p>
“You and your brother will both be the heirs to Vaughn Industries. As long as you’re willing, all my assets and the company are yours. I know I did wrong back then, but I’ve changed now p>
The look in his eyes, as he gazed at me, seemed one of genuine remorse.
I couldn’t forgive him for what he did back then on my mother’s behalf.
If Mom knew I had brought her and my brother back to the Vaughn family she had so desperately avoided, she might even scold me.
But then again, maybe Mom wouldn’t say anything at all.
After all, more than anything, she would want us to be well.
Thinking of this, I glanced at my brother, and for the first time, I awkwardly embraced the shoulders of the man I called Dad.
“Dad, what happened back then is in the past. I can’t forgive you on behalf of my mother, but I will stay with the Vaughn family p>
