My finger tapped the screen as I replied to Alexander:
“If you want to make peace, show me some real fucking sincerity p>
His response came quickly:
“Got it. I know what I need to do p>
Something about that message felt off, but I didn’t think much of it.
After wrapping up everything at the office, I drove back to my penthouse. On the way, Grace called me.
“Where the hell are you p>
Her panicked tone caught me off guard.
“Just left the office, heading home p>
She cut me off.
“Get your ass back to the office, NOW! Alexander’s up on your rooftop saying you’re trying to kill him. He just blew it up on Instagram, and the reporters are probably already swarming. You need a game plan-shit, the internet’s tearing you apart p>
I gripped the steering wheel tighter.
So that’s what the bastard meant by “knowing what to do p>
He wasn’t repentant-he was plotting his next move against me.
I forced myself to stay calm and checked Alexander’s latest Instagram post.
The screenshot showed our text conversation, with his caption:
“This is all my fault. If my death will calm your rage and stop you from hurting my parents, maybe this is the best ending p>
I read it three times.
Then I let out a cold laugh.
Alexander Montgomery had reached a whole new level of shamelessness.

Chapter 2
I tossed my phone onto the passenger seat and headed back to the office.
Sure enough, several police cars were parked outside the building. The rescue team was already in position.
I took the elevator straight to the roof.
Alexander stood at the building’s edge. Mrs. Montgomery had fainted from crying. Mr. Montgomery was trying to talk him down carefully.
Chloe was sobbing hysterically, repeatedly saying it was all her fault, that she should be the one to die.
What a fucking performance. They were just missing their leading lady.
I stood outside the crowd and immediately spotted the planted livestreamers broadcasting to the entire internet.
The comments were brutal, each one more vicious than the last. All aimed at me.
“Wow, abusing your power just cuz he doesn’t love you?? pathetic p>
“OMG she’s literally terrifying? Anyone not on her side = dead p>
“She thinks she’s a princess, Can’t have him so she destroys everything? SMH”
“Rich bitch thinking she can have everything? Like… get over yourself p>
While I was still processing the online hatred, Chloe spotted me first.
She rushed over and dropped to her knees with a loud thud.
“Eleanor, this is all my fault! Alexander just fell in love with me-you can’t really want him to die p>
My phone screen was still lit up. The comments got even more vicious.
“We truly love each other, and love isn’t wrong. But if you’re going to drive Alexander to suicide just because you’re upset, then let me take responsibility for everything p>
Her words were so precise, so damn heroic.
So because I was “upset,” I’m apparently driving a man to suicide. Heartless, huh?
After her little speech, Chloe suddenly leaned in close, making sure only we could hear;
“Eleanor, you know what your biggest failure is p>
I raised an eyebrow. So this bitch had two faces after all.
“You thought your love was so noble and honest. But Alexander? He never gave a damn about you p>

“Using the Montgomery family against him doesn’t mean you hate him. You just can’t let go-that’s where you lost p>
“The Montgomery stock might recover… but you? You’re in for a much uglier end p>
Then she suddenly stumbled backward and cried out:
“Eleanor, are you trying to push me off this roof? Do you think if I die, you won’t have to drive Alexander to
suicide p>
I looked at them on the rooftop. Both of them claiming I was driving them to their deaths. I stepped closer, slowly.
“Alexander, you’re saying I’m forcing you to kill yourself p>
Alexander looked devastated, his eyes full of disappointment.
“Isn’t that exactly what you’re doing? You’re using the Montgomery Group investment to control me. The second you’re unhappy, you threaten us with the company’s survival p>
“My father is a respected man in New York City, but he has to live under your thumb every single day p>
“Eleanor, you have power and money, but I’m human. My parents are human. We’re not your fucking dogs p>
