Declan’s face went pale as he held Ruby tightly.
He’d never seen any of these dozen armed men in black, nor their young leader.
He scanned the area warily, trying to signal his bodyguards.
But in just that split second of eye contact, the men in black moved swiftly, subduing all the bodyguards in moments.
The young man helped me up. My knees had been kicked and were swollen-I could barely stand for long.
“Kai, I thought you weren’t coming p>
Kai’s eyes reddened.
“I promised you-whenever you need me, I’ll always come p>
This conversation reached Declan’s ears, and his expression darkened like storm clouds.
He demanded harshly:
“Raven, who is he p>
I glanced at Declan’s hand secretly comforting Ruby and found it utterly ridiculous.
“Does it matter who he is, or are you trying to stall for time, hoping someone will come rescue you p>
I held out my hand, and someone placed a gun in it.
Something I hadn’t touched in nearly nine years felt natural in my grip again.
I quickly loaded it and raised the barrel toward Declan.
But Ruby broke free from Declan’s embrace and stepped in front of him.
“Declan, don’t you get it even now? Big sister has someone else on the side-she’s wanted to divorce you all along p>
“You said your mom called her dirty before she died, said she wasn’t as innocent as you thought. I didn’t believe it before and even tried confessing her sins before God p>
Her words cut off abruptly-my gun barrel had already pressed hard against her forehead.
Ruby squeezed her eyes shut, tears flowing uncontrollably.
“Even if you kill me today, it won’t change the fact that you seduced other men p>

At the critical moment, Declan shoved Ruby aside, and the bullet hit his shoulder instead.
Blood immediately began flowing freely.

It reminded me instantly of the way Declan’s mother had looked at me when we first met.
“Raven, you wanted this divorce all along, didn’t you? So why keep pretending in front of me? You’re the most disgusting one here-how many years have you been sleeping with this guy? Which one of us makes you feel better on bed-him or me p>
He said these heart-shattering words without restraint.
“My mother was absolutely right, so when those men dragged you into that room back then, you went willingly, didn’t you? My mother hit a nerve, so you had her killed, right p>
I blinked hard, not wanting a single tear to fall.
Kai’s fists were clenched so tight his knuckles were cracking, but without my command, he remained in place.
I spoke slowly:
“So from beginning to end, you never believed a word I said, did you p>
