We both turned toward the voice.
It was Sloane-Damon’s childhood friend who’d been in love with him since forever.
She threw a stack of photos at my feet and started yelling.
“I was at the Marriott downtown for a business meeting a couple days ago when I saw you going in with some guy p>
“I’ve been agonizing over whether to tell Damon. I finally decided I had to, and now I find out you’re pregnant p>
Damon let go of me and started picking up the scattered photos.
His face got darker with each one, his hands shaking worse and worse.
Finally, he threw the whole stack at my face.
“This is what you call innocent p>
“Tell me who this guy is p>
“You’re unbelievable, Chloe p>
His shouting was so loud I thought my eardrums might burst. I frantically gathered up the photos to look at them.
It really was me with another man, and yeah, we looked close in the pictures.
Him giving me a gift, blocking traffic so I could cross safely, wiping something from my face at dinner.
I looked up at Damon’s furious face.
“Damon, that’s my brother. My real brother p>
“He just got back from overseas. I was picking him up and taking him to his hotel p>
“I wanted to tell you, ask you to come with me, but you’ve been so busy with work. I couldn’t find the right time p>
Before Damon could respond, Sloane jumped in.
“Oh please. You say he’s your brother, so we’re supposed to believe you p>
“Everyone knows your family’s been living abroad for years. Why would your brother suddenly come back p>
“And even if Damon was busy, you couldn’t find thirty seconds to send a text p>
I felt like I’d been slapped. When I found out my brother was coming back, I did try to call Damon,
But he kept declining my calls, and I was worried I’d miss picking up my brother, so I just went by myself.
I looked up at Damon from where I sat on the floor.
“I did call you. Multiple times. You kept hanging up on me p>

“Please, Damon. Everything I’m telling you is true p>
The more I talked, the angrier Damon looked.
He pulled out his phone and threw it at me.
“You look! Are there any missed calls or not p>
“Chloe, you’re still lying to my face p>
“We’ve been together five years. How did I never realize what a disgusting person you are p>
My hands were shaking as I scrolled through his call log.
Nothing. No calls. Nothing at all.
Seeing my reaction, Sloane smirked.
“Chloe, you really don’t know how good you had it p>
“Everyone in the city knows Damon worships the ground you walk on. He’d give you anything p>
“And this is how you repay him? Making up pathetic excuses p>
I took a deep breath and looked straight at Damon.
“Damon, I’m telling you one last time. I never cheated on you. This baby is yours p>
“The man in those photos is my brother p>
“I’m asking you straight up-do you believe me or not p>
There were ways to prove this. A paternity test, calling my brother-the truth would come out.
Damon pressed his lips together and said nothing. Sloane grabbed my phone out of my hands.
“Damon has azoospermia. He literally cannot have kids p>
“And if that guy’s really your brother, how come Damon doesn’t even know what he looks like p>
“Chloe, if you’re gonna lie, at least make it believable p>
When Damon and I got married, my family’s company was expanding aggressively overseas.
My brother couldn’t get away for the wedding, so Damon had never actually met him.
It had been years since I’d even seen my brother myself, let alone Damon.
But what really got to me was something else entirely.
I stared hard at Damon.
