I looked toward the hospital room door, and there was my brother.
Knox Carter.
All my pent-up grief came pouring out, and I couldn’t help sobbing.
Seeing my reaction infuriated Damon. He charged toward the door, swinging his fist at my brother.
Several bodyguards appeared from behind my brother and quickly pinned Damon to the floor.
My brother didn’t even glance at him. He walked straight to my bed, his fingers trembling as he reached toward the wound on my forehead.
“I’m sorry, Chloe. I should have been here sooner p>
I shook my head through my tears and threw myself into his arms.
In the ambulance, after hearing Sloane and her mother’s conversation, I’d secretly texted my brother.
Thank God he came.
Seeing my brother and me embracing, Damon struggled on the floor, shouting.
“Chloe! How dare you! How dare you p>
“Tell them to let me go. If he’s a real man, he’ll fight me one-on-one p>
“Chloe is my wife. What gives you the right to touch her? Let her go! Let her go p>
My brother patted my head soothingly. “Don’t be scared. I’m here p>
Then he walked over to where Damon was pinned down and crouched beside him, looking him straight in the eye.
“Mr. Carter, nice to meet you. I should probably introduce myself p>
“I just got back a couple days ago and hadn’t found a chance to say hello yet. I never imagined we’d be meeting under these circumstances p>
“Hello, I’m Knox Carter. Chloe Carter’s older brother p>
Hearing this, Damon stopped struggling completely, like he couldn’t believe what he’d just heard.
After a moment, his lips barely moved as he spoke.
“Impossible. That’s impossible. Carter Industries is overseas. Why would you have time to come back p>
“You bastard! Don’t think you can fool me by pretending to be Chloe’s brother p>
“You think this lie is gonna make me believe you p>
My brother stood up, straightened his suit, and looked down at Damon with complete disdain.
“Carter Industries’ overseas operations are stable now. I came back to expand into the domestic market p>

“Our family never approved of Chloe being with you, but she only had eyes for you. She even left the Carter family just to stay in the country with you p>
“I haven’t seen Chloe in three years, and this is the welcome gift you give me. You’re something else, Mr. Reed p>
Before Damon could respond, my brother’s phone rang.
Ignoring Damon, my brother answered the video call. It was from our parents.
Mom’s anxious voice came through the phone as soon as the call connected.
“Knox, Knox, did you find your sister p>
“How is she? Is she hurt anywhere? Let me see her p>
My brother pointed the phone at Damon on the floor and spoke quietly.
“Mom, hold on. Before you see Chloe, take a look at this man p>
“This is the guy who called me her affair partner, called Chloe’s baby a bastard, and forced her to have an abortion p>
“What should we do about this p>
The moment he saw the phone screen, Damon’s face went ashen.
He’d never met my brother, but he’d met my parents at our wedding.
Before Damon could say anything, Dad’s furious voice came through the phone.
“My daughter will not be treated this way p>
“Divorce! They’re getting divorced p>
