Evelyn’s POV
I couldn’t believe what Emma, my assistant, was telling me. Calvin had come looking for “Dr. Blake,” my professional alias that I used for treating patients publicly.
“Alpha Calvin came early this morning asking about Dr. Blake’s availability. He wants the doctor’s help treating someone,” Emma explained, handing me a folder. “This is the patient’s information p>
As my personal assistant for three years, Emma knew about my history with Calvin. Opening the file, I wasn’t surprised to see Clara Whitmore’s name.
“The patient has facial scarring that normal surgery can’t fix, so they’ve come to our lab as their last hope,” Emma added quietly.
I’d thought Calvin came here for our sons.The morning sun came through the windows, warming the room but not the cold spreading through my heart.
I sighed and told Emma,”You just tell Calvin,I won’t treat any patient Calvin recommends. “
“Call Gary, Jackson, Anya, and Eryx for a meeting. “
Once everyone gathered, I laid out our priorities.
After the brief meeting, I looked at Gary. “My sons’ treatment is in your hands. Once I finish these matters, I’ll join the research p>
When I got back to the room, Calvin was there with food. His dark eyes found mine, but I kept my face blank as I walked to our sons’ bed.
“You need to eat,” he said softly, breaking the quiet.
“Thanks, but I’m not hungry,” I said coldly.
The room had everything – kitchen, dining space, bathroom, and a sofa for staying over. His food sat untouched. Since I wouldn’t eat, he didn’t either. The silence felt heavy between us.
Then Rowan and Rhys woke up. We both rushed to them, and they started crying. My heart broke seeing them like this.
“It’s okay, Rowan. Mommy stopped the bad people. They won’t hurt you again,” I whispered, holding him while he cried into my shoulder. Rowan always cried quietly, unlike his brother, which hurt me even more.
After checking they were okay, I could finally breathe. Emma brought some light food, and Calvin and I each fed one of the twins. The day went by fast, and being with both of us seemed to make the boys feel safer.
Neither of us asked the boys about Red Sunset Village. They were still shaking from their scary memories.
At night, things got worse. The boys started sweating through their pajamas. Calvin and I worked together, washing them with warm water and changing their clothes until they finally slept in the early morning.
My clothes were wet with sweat, and Calvin looked just as tired. The twins held onto both of us. When one twin woke up scared, the other would wake too.
The Evelink lab was safe. No one could enter without my permission. Even Zeon couldn’t bring Calvin new clothes. For the children’s sake, I had someone bring Calvin two sets of casual clothes.
Without his suit, wearing just sports clothes, he looked younger. His hair was still wet from toweling it dry, not wanting to wake the kids with a dryer. Water drops ran down his jaw to his neck.
As I turned to go change, he spoke.
“You know Dr. Blake, don’t you?” His voice was deep and calm.
I just looked at him, saying nothing.
His dark eyes seemed to shine in the dim room’s moonlight. He stepped closer, watching me.
“Clara’s face is badly scarred. She needs help,” he said. “I heard Dr. Blake has a pill that can heal skin damage p>
I laughed bitterly. “What are you trying to say p>
I already said no.
“I’m not suggesting anything,” he said. “It’s just that Clara saved Rhys once. I owe her a favor p>
“I hope Clara dies,” I cut in coldly. “Why would I help her? She’s getting what she deserves for breaking up families and hurting children p>
“First she poisoned them, now she kidnapped them. It’s all Clara!” I said. “Whatever she is to you, she won’t get away with this p>
My lawyers were ready with the phone records and Lillian’s confession. Clara would be in jail soon.
As for Calvin p>
when he saw my disgust, he flinched. He tried to explain, but I wouldn’t let him.
“You’re here for our sons,” I said coldly. “I let you stay because of them. Focus on what’s important right now p>
I tried to walk past him, but he caught my wrist.
His handsome face turned serious as he spoke quietly. “You’ve been through enough. Just help me reach Dr. Blake, and I’ll handle everything else p>
I pulled away. “No p>
“People who hurt others get hurt back. She hurt my children – she’ll pay for that p>
My hands shook with anger. Calvin spoke carefully, seeing how upset I was.
“I’m looking into what happened to Rowan and Rhys. We need to check your evidence too p>
My mind went blank at his words. We were in different worlds, too far apart to understand each other.
I felt sick. I pushed past him to the bathroom where steam still hung from his shower, his clothes on the rack.
I hadn’t eaten all day. Nothing came up, but I kept gagging. I splashed cold water on my face. The cool water cleared my head, making me see all my disappointment in Calvin.
When I came out, my face was white, wet hair on my cheeks. A sharp pain hit my stomach, and I grabbed it.
Calvin tried to help me, but I moved away. His eyes went dark when he saw my hand on my stomach. Pain showed on his face.
“Are you pregnant again?” he asked, stepping back. “Who’s the father p>
His mouth twisted in a sad smile, like he was laughing at himself.
I leaned on the wall, feeling weak and tired. The room started spinning.
