Evelyn’s POV
Diana sat on the sofa, openly scrutinizing my home’s decor.
When she saw me, she lifted her chin with the haughty demeanor of someone accustomed to being obeyed.
“Evelyn,” she commanded rather than greeted, “I hear you have connections with Evelink Biosciences. My brother’s company has a high-profile client who’s gravely ill. None of the hospitals here can help him. Since Evelink is apparently so advanced, I need you to make arrangements immediately p>
She continued without waiting for my response. “I’ve done my research. Evelink has internationally certified medical aircraft. I need you to get one out here right away p>
According to Jackson’s intel, Diana’s brother had promised his client that if he recovered, the client would grant his company exclusive rights to handle all real estate developments in the tri-state area—worth millions in pure profit annually.
Ever since Calvin had taken over Wolfe Haven International, he had cut off Diana’s family from using the company name to secure deals, even issuing a public statement that Radiant Properties had no connection to Wolfe Haven.
I looked at Diana’s entitled expression, finding it almost ridiculous that she thought she could still intimidate me.
I sat on the farthest sofa from her while a staff member brought my coffee. Taking a slow sip,I finally responded with just a few words.

Diana’s face darkened. “Because I’m Rowan and Rhys’s grandmother. If I decide I don’t want you to see them, you won’t p>
She leaned forward, her voice dropping to a threatening whisper. “I know you came back to fight for custody. Don’t think I can’t make that impossible for you p>
I took another sip of my coffee, unmoved.
Diana had apparently promised her brother that his client would receive transport on Evelink’s medical aircraft with the top treatment team. The contract was already signed, and failure to deliver would cost them big time.
“I can’t help you,” I said calmly.
Diana’s face reddened with each refusal. Finally, she lost it, “What do you mean you can’t? You made it happen for Eric Sullivan! Why not for family p>
I shrugged. “I’m just an assistant. I don’t have that kind of influence p>
Checking my watch, I stood. “If there’s nothing else, Luna Diana, the door’s right there p>
“Wait!” Diana’s breathing got heavy with anger, but realizing the contract implications, she quickly changed tactics. She stood up and grabbed my hand, her tone suddenly sweet as pie.
“Evelyn, honey, we were family for five years. How can you help complete strangers but not your own family? I watched Rowan and Rhys grow up. As long as they call me grandma, I’ll always love them like my own flesh and blood p>
She squeezed my hand, her smile totally fake. “And you, Evelyn, no matter what happened between you and Calvin, you’ll always be like a daughter to me p>
Diana clearly thought she was being generous, throwing me a bone while saving face.
I watched her beg me with complete detachment.
“So… hurry up and get this arranged. The client is already waiting outside your place, and he can’t wait much longer p>
She actually brought the patient here? How manipulative.
I looked at her phony warmth and felt sick to my stomach. The coffee I’d just had threatened to come back up.
“I appreciate that, but,” I said, pulling my hand away. “I really can’t make this work. Maybe try your client’s insurance company for medical transport p>
I headed for the door, grateful I had insisted on meeting in the sitting room instead of letting her negative energy anywhere near my actual living space.
“Evelyn, don’t you walk away from me!” Diana’s voice rose. “If you don’t get this done today, I’m taking Rowan and Rhys back to the pack house. You’ll never see them again p>
Her voice sounded absolutely sure this threat would work on me.
Anger shot through me at the mention of my children. Before I could respond, a cold, familiar voice cut through the room.
“Who said you could come here p>
The autumn breeze swept through the open window, carrying the last warmth of summer.Calvin’s familiar scent filled the room, cedar and winter air.
He appeared in the doorway, his presence commanding as always. He walked right up to me.
Diana immediately stiffened at the sight of her son. All that arrogance just melted away in seconds.
“Who said you could come here?” Calvin’s voice was flat and emotionless. His eyes had this icy look that made even me feel cold, though I knew his anger wasn’t aimed at me.
“I just came to see the children,” Diana’s voice shook as her confidence collapsed. “Rowan and Rhys haven’t visited the pack house in ages p>
Calvin stared her down without blinking. “The children aren’t your responsibility anymore p>
Diana pulled herself together. “How can they not be my responsibility? I raised those boys, gave them a proper education. I’m their grandmother p>
I watched as Calvin’s expression turned dangerous.
“I know everything,” he said, his voice low and threatening. “You took Rowan and Rhys from Evelyn’s care by force, keeping them from their mother p>
I felt a flicker of surprise at his words. Was Calvin actually defending me against his own mother? That was unexpected.
“Now that Evelyn has returned, caring for her sons is her right,” he continued firmly. “You will not threaten her or try to take the twins from her again p>
Diana’s gaze shifted nervously away from her son. She clearly hadn’t expected this reaction.
“Calvin, let’s forget about the kids for now. What I’m asking Evelyn to do is really important,” Diana pleaded, changing tactics. “Your Uncle Randy’s client is waiting right outside! Someone could die p>
I couldn’t help letting out a laugh. “Is it really about saving a life, or just about the money p>
Diana looked like she wanted to slap me, but Calvin’s presence held her back. She continued her act, widening her eyes dramatically.
“Calvin, please talk some sense into Evelyn. This client is huge for Randy’s company p>
I stood back, curious to see what Calvin would do. Was he still the mama’s boy who jumped when Diana called?
