The thugs had no idea who Serenity really was. Carrie wasn’t foolish enough to reveal her identity. No amount of money would persuade these individuals to do her bidding if they discovered that Serenity was actually Mrs. York.
“Delete my number once you receive the final payment. I can assure your safety as long as you follow my instructions p>
“Don’t hold me responsible for what happens if I hear you talking about this p>
“Don’t worry, Ms. Jones. We won’t say a word to anyone. We’re in this together since you’re paying us for the job p>
Truthfully, Carrie hadn’t even disclosed her real last name to the thugs.
She planned to dispose of the SIM card after the job was completed and after she was finished communicating with them. The number wasn’t registered in her name, anyway.
Carrie ended the call, laughing at the thought of Serenity getting what was coming to her.
Serenity should have stayed out of things instead of getting involved with Camryn. It was time for her to experience a taste of her own medicine.
Knock, knock.
Pulling herself away from her laughter, Carrie asked, “Who is it p>
“It’s me, Carrie p>
Carrie opened the door to let her mother in.
“I was just heading to my room when I heard you laughing, Carrie. Did something good happen? Share it with me so I can laugh too,” Mrs. Newman said with a smile.
Since returning from the Dowlings’ party, Mrs. Newman had been feeling guilty about what happened to her beloved daughter.
“I did something, Mom p>
Carrie first asked, “Is the blind girl back yet p>
“Not yet. What’s going on? Did you think of something new to target her with? Otherwise, I wouldn’t have heard you laughing so loudly through the door p>
Knowing that Camryn hadn’t returned yet, Carrie felt no need to worry.
Her mother was the dominant figure in the household, so everyone’s loyalty lay with her. No one would support Camryn.
Carrie recounted the entire incident to her mother, explaining how she had gone to Camryn’s shop looking for trouble and ended up fighting with Serenity.
Upon realizing that her daughter had once again clashed with Serenity, Mrs. Newman’s expression turned cold and fierce. However, she quickly regained her composure and admonished her daughter, saying, “Your father has instructed us to avoid Mr. York for now. He is still focused on that country girl. Do not provoke her. If we offend her again, your father will have to beg for forgiveness p>
“Your father is a proud man who would never bow to anyone, yet he had to apologize because of our actions. While we don’t operate our business in Wiltspoon, we shouldn’t underestimate York Corporation p>
Zachary had mentioned that Serenity had taken an interest in Camryn and wanted to befriend her when her husband went to apologize to Zachary. In essence, Zachary was cautioning the Newmans to stop harassing Camryn.
‘The entire family certainly has a talent for meddling in others’ affairs,’ Mrs. Newman thought to herself, complaining about Zachary.
Mr. Newman also left for business that very day, apprehensive that Zachary might unexpectedly target his company, just as he had with Lowe Enterprise, which had been caught off guard.
