Zachary was taken aback.
He expected her to express how much she would miss him, but instead, she was merely confirming the details of his business trip. Then she cheerfully offered to assist with his packing and drive him to the airport, without even inquiring about the purpose of the trip.
This left Zachary feeling downcast.
After their numerous intimate moments under the sheets, he thought their relationship had evolved. However, it seemed only marginally improved. She was not at all clingy towards him.
With this sense of disappointment, Mr. York flew to Annenburg to attend the wedding of a key business partner, Ben Young-Johnson, the CEO of FC & CO.
At the wedding, upon seeing the happy couple and learning that Jane, the bride, was expecting twins, Zachary felt a pang of envy.
Thanks to Remy’s introduction, Zachary met Laurent Lafayette from Meadspring. He discovered that Laurent, like him, traveled with a group of bodyguards for safety and to deter admirers.

Remy beamed. “Since you’ve come all the way to Annenburg, I want to be the best host I can be. If you’re not in a rush to head back, I’ll show you around for the next few days so you can enjoy the views of Annenburg. Personally, I think the attractions here are far superior to those in Wiltspoon p>
Wiltspoon lacked any particularly famous landmarks, while Annenburg was considered the most enchanting city in the province.
After a brief pause, Zachary replied, “I’ll be heading back soon for the holidays. I plan to take a few days off to spend time with my family’s elders p>
The Johnsons reminded him of his own family—a close-knit group where brothers and uncles got along without any power struggles.
In the past, Ben had brought his beloved wife back to Meadspring and entrusted FC & Co. to his third and fourth brothers. They managed for a time, but the pressure became overwhelming, and they begged Ben to return.
Once the business with the Lafayettes in Meadspring was settled, Ben came back with his wife, and the two brothers quickly relinquished control of the company, as if it were a hot potato.
Hearing this made Zachary realize that a similar situation could occur in the York family.
He understood all too well the burden that Ben had to bear; it was as if Ben were a second Zachary.
