Chapter 124
Evelyn’s POV
Liri drummed her nails against the table. “Who exactly are we waiting for?” she demanded. Her patience was clearly running out.
“Leon Robinson,” I replied coolly, watching her reaction.
Just as I expected, Liri’s expression shifted. A flash of anticipation crossed her eyes, though she quickly tried to hide it. Her body language told me everything I needed to know. Despite her public claims about Leon being her fiancé, something was definitely off.
I didn’t call her out on it. Instead, I sat back and waited.
The blonde woman and her friends were growing uncomfortable. Their designer outfits and perfect hair couldn’t hide their anxiety. Their husbands might have money, but they clearly cared more about appearances than anything else. Being caught at a police station would cause trouble at home.
“Can we please get this over with?” the blonde woman whined. “I need to get home to put my son to bed p>
“This is between the mistress and the fiancée,” another one said. “Why do we even need to be here p>
The third woman glared at me. “If you didn’t want people talking, maybe you shouldn’t have gone after someone else’s fiancé p>
Grant, my lawyer, straightened his tie and spoke with professional calm. “According to the law, spreading lies that damage someone’s reputation is defamation. In serious cases p>
The women exchanged nervous looks, doubt creeping into their faces. But their worry disappeared when Liri let out a nasty laugh.
The blonde woman’s face brightened immediately. “We haven’t said anything untrue! Liri, everything in your video was accurate, right p>
“Of course everything I said is true,” Liri declared. “This woman went after my fiancé! She’s nothing but a gold-digging slut p>
I raised my gaze slowly, meeting her eyes without any emotion.
Liri glared back just as hard.
“Is Leon Robinson really your fiancé?” I asked quietly.
“If he’s not mine, are you saying he’s yours?” Liri snapped. “God, shameless women are everywhere these days p>
“If he’s not,” I replied evenly, “I’ll be making your family pay for everything you’ve done p>
Liri tossed her hair back. “Make my family pay? You don’t have the power to touch us p>
Just then, the door opened.
Leon Robinson rushed in. His eyes immediately found me.
He walked straight to my side and sat down next to me. The message was crystal clear. He was choosing my side against Liri.
“Leon,” Liri hissed, “you are my fiancé! How dare you sit next to this homewrecker! What would your grandfather Silas think of this p>
Leon’s usually warm eyes had turned ice cold. “Liri, I am not your fiancé. Stop spreading these lies p>
“Lies?” Liri’s voice rose dangerously.
Leon didn’t soften at the sight of her tears. His jaw stayed set, probably remembering all the nasty comments under her video. The ones wishing death on my children, calling me horrible names, threatening violence.
“That dinner with our families? I was tricked into going. If I’d known it was a setup, I would have refused no matter what,” he said firmly. “And I made myself crystal clear that same night. I already have feelings for someone else p>
His voice got stronger. “I’m single, going after a woman I’ve cared about for ten years. What’s wrong with that p>
Leon’s expression got even harder. “But you? You made up a relationship between us in your video and trashed the woman I care about by calling her a homewrecker. I won’t let either thing slide p>
When Leon mentioned “the woman I’ve cared about for ten years,” my heart skipped a beat. I turned to look at him, but he stayed focused on Liri.
The color drained from Liri’s face as his words sank in.
The three women who had been so eager to call me names now stared at her in shock, their mouths hanging open.
“So he’s not actually your fiancé?” one muttered.
“You’ve been lying?” another accused. “Even big influencers can’t just make things up! You got your followers to cyberbully someone on purpose p>
I wasn’t surprised by how fast they switched sides. People like them always follow whoever seems to be winning.
I kept my face cold as I looked at Liri, whose eyes were now red with anger. “Ms. Johnson, do you have anything to explain p>
Liri’s chest was heaving with rage. Her mouth opened and closed without any real words coming out.
“Since you have nothing to say, I’ll speak,” I said coldly. “Whatever relationship you think you have with Leon doesn’t matter to me. What matters is that you spread lies online that have seriously messed up my life and put my children at risk. I plan to make you pay for it p>
Liri rolled her eyes, completely brushing off my threat. Her look said it all. With her father’s money and power, she thought she was untouchable.
I could read her perfectly. These rich princess types rarely understand consequences. They’ve been protected their whole lives.
But even the most sheltered princess needs to learn eventually. A knife doesn’t feel deadly until it’s at your own throat.
Liri’s confidence came from her family’s wealth. But what would happen if that safety net disappeared?
“You have three days to post a public apology online,” I said calmly. “If you don’t, I’ll show you exactly what ’actions have consequences’ really means p>
I turned to look at the three women who had hassled me at the school. None of them could look me in the eye.
“We can’t be blamed,” the blonde woman mumbled. “Her video misled us p>
“We were just sticking up for another woman!” her friend added.
“Look, we won’t say anything else about it,” the third woman begged. “Don’t hold it against us. Our kids go to the same school, after all p>
Grant looked at me with barely hidden amusement. He noticed I hadn’t made any other demands, so he knew I had something else planned. After working out some details with Liri’s lawyer, he sat back, clearly excited to see what would happen next.
When Liri finally left the room, her heels clicked angrily against the floor. I watched her walk away, knowing for sure that she wouldn’t apologize. In fact, she would probably do something even stupider.
And that was exactly what I wanted.
At the door, Liri turned back to give me one last nasty look. “Threatening me? Who do you think you are p>
She immediately pulled out her phone and called her father, talking loud enough for us to hear. “Daddy, you have to help me! I’m at the police station, and Leon, my fiancé, is taking this homewrecker’s side! I won’t stop until she’s completely destroyed p>
She kept going, her voice turning ugly. “That homewrecker’s kids go to Ravenshade Private school. Daddy, isn’t the principal your friend? I want those kids kicked out! They should be ashamed their mother is a homewrecker p>
After she left, Leon walked out of the police station with me.
“Evelyn, I’m so sorry for all this mess,” Leon said seriously, his eyes full of worry. “I promise I’ll fix this situation. I won’t let Liri hurt you or your kids again p>
I looked straight at him. “Leon, are you in love with me p>
