Alexis didn’t see that her brother was upset. She smiled at Rhys with her cute dimples. “Alex loves brothers most too p>
But Rhys looked away and didn’t answer. Trevor’s mean words kept playing in his head.
Alexis looked at her brother being quiet. She held his hand tight. When Rhys looked at her, she gave him a big smile.
“Love Rhys, Mommy loves you, Alex loves you too,” she said sweetly.
Rhys felt better. He was sorry for thinking bad things before. He held her hand back and looked more sure of himself.
Dad always said that admitting your mistakes made you a better person.
He had already made Mom sad once. He didn’t want to do it again.
Rhys gave Alexis to Rowan and ran at Trevor. “Give us our ball back, Trevor p>
Trevor said no, and the boys started fighting. Trevor was bigger, but Rhys was stronger because he was really angry.
Rowan picked up Alexis and moved her away so she wouldn’t get hurt.
Alexis was worried about her brother. She pulled on Rowan’s shirt and looked at the fighting boys. “Brother hurt p>
“Don’t worry, Alex,” Rowan said. “Your brother is okay p>
Trevor was just big and strong, but the twins learned how to fight in their special classes. Rhys was winning.
Rhys kicked Trevor hard, and Trevor fell into the pool with a big splash. He was splashing around in the water, looking embarrassed.
The other boys couldn’t believe it. They knew Rhys was tough, but they didn’t think he could beat Trevor so fast.
“You guys say bad words. Time to wash your mouths!” Rhys said, pushing all the other boys into the pool too. All the splashing made the grown-ups inside come outside.
Diana Whitmore was watching from far away. She smiled when the parents started running outside.
“My baby!” Trevor’s mom screamed. “Who pushed my boy in the pool? I’m going to hurt you p>
Guards jumped in and pulled the wet kids out of the water. Trevor was cold and shaking. He looked mad at Rhys. “Mom, Rhys pushed me p>
Rowan put Alexis on a bench and ran to help his brother.
Alexis sat on the bench like she was told. She watched the grown-ups around her brothers. She thought about finding her mom and dad to help.
Before she could get down, Diana saw everyone was busy. She quickly pushed Alexis off the bench when no one was looking.
Alexis hit her head on the ground. She used her little hands to get up and rubbed where it hurt.
She saw the grown-ups were still looking at her brothers. Her lips started shaking. Then she cried really loud so everyone would hear.
Most of the grown-ups turned away when they saw it was Evelyn’s daughter. But the twins heard their sister crying and ran to her.
“Alex! What happened?” they both asked.
Alexis had a red mark on her forehead, and her eyes were full of tears. She looked really sad.
“Oh no, what’s wrong with Alex?” Diana came over and pretended to care. “Come to Grandma Diana p>
Alexis pushed her hand away hard. “Bad! Go away p>
She remembered that Diana pushed her.
Diana’s face got angry right away. “What a rude child. I try to help and she pushes me away? Her parents didn’t teach her right p>
Rowan saw his sister was upset and said quickly, “Grandmother, you shouldn’t talk about Alex like that. She’s a good girl p>
“Rowan, you can’t baby your sister like this,” Diana said. “She’s making too much noise and bothering everyone. That’s not nice p>
“Look at the other kids. Even Trevor fell in the water, but he’s not crying like she is p>
She was saying mean things about Alexis and nice things about Trevor at the same time.
Rowan felt something was wrong but didn’t know what to say.
Rhys didn’t wait. He pushed Diana away from his sister. “Don’t be mean to Alex p>
Diana looked really mad. “Rhys Wolfe! Ever since you and your brother started playing with this little brat, you forgot how to be good boys p>
The people watching looked shocked when Diana talked so mean.
“Is this what your expensive teachers taught you?” Diana kept going. “I’m going to tell your grandfather. You’re making the Bloodbane Pack look bad p>
Diana was happy when people looked confused. This was what she wanted—to make them think she was important.
“Both of you go to your rooms and think about what you did!” she told the twins.
The boys didn’t know what to do. They weren’t used to getting in trouble for things they didn’t do, but they were too polite to make a big fuss.
When Alexis saw her brothers being quiet, she stood up and put her little arms in front of them.
“No say bad to brothers!” she said loudly.
Upstairs, Evelyn saw the kids were gone and came downstairs fast to find them. She saw all the people on the grass and walked quickly to them.
When she got to the door, she heard Diana’s loud voice saying mean things about her and Alexis and also being mean to her sons. Evelyn got really angry.
“Diana,” she said in a cold voice that cut through all the noise. “What do you think you’re doing p>
When everyone heard Evelyn’s voice, they turned to see her walking toward them. She looked so strong and serious that everyone got quiet.
