Chapter 35

Evelyn’s POV

I held Alexis close to my chest, feeling her tiny hands grip my blouse as she buried her face against my neck.

The weight of her trust was comforting, this little girl depended on me entirely, and I would do anything to protect her from harm.Especially from the woman currently sitting in Calvin’s car, watching us with those calculating eyes.

“Mommy, let’s go home,” Alexis murmured.

I patted her back reassuringly. “Of course, sweetheart p>

Just as I turned to leave, Calvin’s voice echoed. “Wait p>

He approached us with purposeful strides, a pink stuffed fox clutched in his large hand.

“I bought this especially for you,” he said to Alexis. “Do you like it p>

I watched my daughter’s face carefully. For a brief moment, her eyes lit up with childish delight before darting toward the car window where Clara sat watching us. Alexis’s tiny body tensed in my arms, and she shook her head.

“Thank you, Alpha, but I don’t want it,” she replied.

I felt her small hands tighten around my neck as she buried her face deeper into my shoulder.

My daughter was distressed by Clara ’s presence.

“Thank you for the gesture, Alpha Calvin,” I said coolly.”I can buy toys for my daughter. Perhaps you should save this one for your girlfriend p>

Calvin’s expression hardened immediately, his jaw clenching.

“What nonsense are you talking about? I don’t have a p>

I didn’t wait to hear his denial. With Alexis clutched protectively against me, I turned and walked to my car.

As I buckled my daughter into her car seat, I caught a glimpse of Clara calling out to Calvin, her voice dripping with false sweetness.

“Calvin, don’t forget we have business to attend to! We should head back soon p>

The territorial way she said “we” made my blood boil, but I focused on Alexis’s safety belt instead. I refused to give Clara the satisfaction of seeing me affected.

As we drove away, I watched through the rearview mirror as the twins climbed out of Clara’s car to join their father in the other vehicle.

At least they seemed to be keeping their distance from that woman. My boys were smart, they could sense something wasn’t right about her.

“Mommy?” Alexis’s voice pulled me from my thoughts.

“Yes, baby p>

“Why does Daddy bring that bad lady around? She makes my tummy feel funny p>

I reached back to squeeze her little hand. “Some people just aren’t very nice, sweetheart. But you don’t need to worry about her p>

The traffic light ahead turned green, and I accelerated through the intersection.

Calvin’s POV

My wolf, Cyra, was restless inside me. Ever since Evelyn had walked away with our daughter, an uncomfortable tightness had settled in my chest. Watching her leave always felt like losing a part of myself, though I’d never admit it aloud.

The pink fox dangled uselessly from my hand, rejected by Alexis.

“Alpha, you forgot we have business to attend to!” Clara’s sweet voice grated on my nerves. “We should head back soon p>

I barely acknowledged her as I watched Evelyn’s car disappear down the road.

Our sons approached me.

“Dad, we want to ride with you,” Rowan said firmly, holding his brother’s hand.

I nodded. “Of course p>

As we drove behind Clara’s car, my thoughts remained with Evelyn and Alexis.

A sudden gasp from Rowan snapped me back to attention.

“Dad! It’s Mom’s car p>

My heart dropped as I saw the mangled wreckage ahead.

Two trucks had sandwiched a black sedan between them,Evelyn’s sedan.

“STOP THE CAR!” I roared, my Alpha voice making even my Beta flinch.

The boys tried to follow as I leaped out, but I couldn’t let them see this.

“Stay in the car. I mean it.” I softened my tone, placing a hand on Rowan’s shoulder. “I’ll check on them. Be good boys p>

The crowd’s murmurs reached my ears as I approached the scene.

“So terrible p>

“Nobody could survive that crash p>

“Those poor family members p>

Cyra howled inside me, a primal sound of despair that threatened to tear me apart from within.

My legs moved on their own, but my mind was splitting apart.

I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. The image of Evelyn’s laugh, Alexis’s tiny hand in mine,it all slammed into me at once like a wave I couldn’t escape.

“No. No, no, no,” I whispered, over and over, my voice cracking with each word.

My vision blurred, and my legs nearly gave out. Evelyn couldn’t be gone.Alexis couldn’t be gone. The very thought was like a silver dagger to my heart.

The world had no meaning without them. What use was power, strength, legacy—if they weren’t in it?

I’d failed them again. I let her go once. I let her suffer alone. And now I might have lost the chance to ever make it right.

I pushed through the crowd, barely registering the calls of my security team behind me.

All I could think about was reaching that car, finding them alive somehow.

But as I got closer and saw the crushed metal, the reality began to sink in. No one could have survived this p>

A scream ripped from my chest, silent and shattering. I reached for the wreckage like it could somehow bring her back. I didn’t care who was watching, didn’t care if I collapsed right there.

A searing pain exploded in my chest, and I tasted blood in my mouth. The world tilted sideways as darkness claimed me, my last conscious thought a plea to the Moon Goddess to spare them, to take me instead.

Third POV

The security team shouted in unison, “Alpha Calvin p>

From the back seat of a black Maybach parked near the crash site, half of Clara ’s face was cloaked in shadow, the other half glowing faintly in the passing lights.

Her eyes sparkled not with fear or concern, but with a sick satisfaction. Her wish had finally come true.

Evelyn Blackwell was dead.

There would be no more obstacles between her and Calvin Wolfe. No more delays. No more children stealing his affection. No ghost of a past mate to haunt her chances of becoming Luna.

But as she watched Calvin charge into the mangled wreckage like a madman, fury flared in her chest. The way he ran, the anguish twisting his face,he still cared for that woman.

That bitch was gone, and he was still mourning her?

Clara clenched her fists in her lap, nails digging into her palm. But it didn’t matter. The dead don’t win against the living.

From the driver’s seat, her chauffeur caught a glimpse of her twisted expression in the rearview mirror and quickly looked away.

There was something feral, unhinged, about this woman. Something that made even seasoned warriors uneasy.

The black sedan, crushed between two massive transport trucks, was flattened like a sheet of twisted metal.

Calvin’s mind recoiled at the sight. It wasn’t just a crash,it was obliteration. There might not even be a body left to recover.

Pain thundered in his skull. It felt like a colony of ants was burrowing into his brain, gnawing away at his sanity. Clutching his chest, he staggered toward the wreck, each step an act of will.

But before he could reach it, his knees buckled. He spat out a mouthful of dark blood, and everything went black.

His guards rushed forward, catching him just in time before he hit the pavement.

Calvin Wolfe was rushed to the nearest hospital. Rowan and Rhys were discreetly taken back to the Wolfe estate under tight security. The twins didn’t witness their father collapse, but Clara did.

She followed the convoy to the hospital and waited outside the operating room. When Calvin was finally wheeled out hours later, she rushed forward, only to be blocked by Zeon, his ever-loyal Beta.

“Miss Whitmore,” Zeon said firmly, “I’ll have a driver take you home p>

“I want to stay with him,” she insisted.

“Alpha Calvin needs rest,” he replied evenly. “Please don’t make this difficult p>

“Zeon, you know our relationship. He needs me now more than ever p>

“I’m sorry,” Zeon said without emotion. “We’re following orders p>

Clara ’s face twisted with restrained rage. “You p>

With the guards and Zeon stationed at the door, she had no way of getting close. She was left with no choice but to return to the Calypso Packhouse.

The moment she sat down in the back seat, she pulled out her phone, her fingers trembling with excitement.

Her voice, though low, practically dripped with glee.

“Rocco,” she whispered into the phone. “You did well p>

Rocco was the deadliest warrior in her father’s pack, a killer who had taken care of many unwanted wolves over the years.

She glanced out the window, smiling coldly.

“The two boys? Wait for my signal. I want them taken care of… permanently p>
