Chapter 43

Evelyn’s POV

I walked out of the treatment room, feeling calmer as I watched my sons through the window. The stabilizer was working, both Rowan and Rhys were getting better. Their skin looked healthier, and their breathing was normal, not like the scary gasps at Ravenshade Memorial Hospital.

But they weren’t safe yet.

“How bad is it?” I asked as Gary came with the first blood test results.

He gave me the paper, looking worried. “It’s worse than we thought. Besides the LDS virus, there’s a strange substance in their blood that I’ve never seen before p>

I looked at the molecular structure on the screen, quickly recognizing parts similar to things I’d studied before.

“It’s a Wolf Instinct Suppression drug,” I said, feeling cold. “A stronger version than any that exists now p>

Gary nodded. “Our initial assessment suggests it would cause complete wolf separation if left untreated.Eventually leading to mental fragmentation, language disorders, and… permanent disassociation from their wolf p>

“They would never shift,” I said quietly, understanding what it meant. My sons would lose their wolf before it could even awaken.

I shut my eyes, feeling angry. Clara Whitmore wasn’t just trying to hurt my children, she wanted to destroy their future. One poison wasn’t enough, she wanted to make sure they’d never become the strong Alpha heirs they should be.

“Keep treating them,” I told Gary. “And make something to remove the suppression drug. We need to clean it from their bodies completely p>

He nodded and went back to the lab while I watched my sleeping boys through the glass. My nails dug into my hands.

“I swear,” I said quietly, “you’ll pay for this, Clara p>

After checking on Alexis, who was playing happily in the children’s area with Eryx watching her, I went to the security room where Jackson ran our computer network.

When I walked in, he looked up from his screens, and his face told me our plan against the Calypso Pack was working.

“What’s happening?” I asked, sitting next to him.

“The Alpha Council got our tips about the Calypso Pack’s illegal business,” Jackson said, showing me several video feeds. “They’re searching all their territories. Elder Seymour is leading the investigation himself p>

I watched with satisfaction as the screens showed Council investigators in gray suits taking documents, locking buildings, and questioning pack members.

“The Council’s enforcement team has taken Alpha Cyrus and his wife,”Jackson continued.”They’re in the special interrogation rooms under the Council headquarters p>

These rooms had moon silver walls that blocked all mind-link communications. They were used only for the worst crimes against pack law. No wolf could contact their pack while inside, completely cut off from pack bonds.

I nodded slowly. “And Rocco p>

“Caught two days ago. Council got proof he killed six wolves, including a Luna from the east. They’re keeping him away from Alpha Cyrus in high security p>

“What about Clara?” I asked, sitting forward.

“She contacted Alpha Calvin for help. He’s managed to protect some of her pack’s assets p>

What? Calvin was still helping Clara’s pack. He must really love her.

Jackson then asked, “Should we proceed with our investigation and disclosure of the Calypso Pack’s activities p>

I thought carefully. If we did more, Calvin would find out it was us. He had many resources and connections.

But remembering my sons sick in bed because of Clara’s poison made me angry again.

“Keep investigating,” I replied. “Send everything about the Calypso Pack and Clara’s crimes to Zeon. Tell him it’s from me p>

Jackson always did what I said, perfectly and quietly.

My last message to Zeon was very clear,”If Calvin chooses to protect Clara, I will immediately petition the Alpha Council for sole custody of our children p>

Calvin’s POV

The Wolfe Haven International headquarters was full of activity as I returned from my urgent business trip. The moment I stepped into my office, Zeon walked up with a tense expression.

“Alpha, there’s an email from Luna, I mean, Dr. Blackwell,” he corrected himself quickly.

Despite my warning glare at his slip using the formal title for my former mate, Zeon went on quickly, “The poison in the young Alphas’ bodies was planned by the Calypso Pack p>

My Beta’s worry was clear. I had just finished helping Clara’s pack keep what was left of their businesses. Now I was being told that they had tried to poison my sons?

For several seconds, it felt like time stopped as I tried to take in this shock.

I carefully read through the email, page by page. Rocco had paid one of my household staff to put a slow-acting poison in my sons’ morning and evening milk. The man had been smart, using several layers of people in between, which explained why Zeon’s investigation hadn’t found these links. Evelyn’s report was very detailed.

The proof showed everything from Rocco’s meeting with a relative of my staff member to the foreign college payments for that staff member’s sons, and finally to the large amounts of money sent to their relative’s account. Every part was clearly shown and couldn’t be denied.

If this information became public, the Calypso Pack wouldn’t just lose their money. Clara herself would face legal charges.

The last line of Evelyn’s message hit me like a punch,”If Calvin chooses to protect Clara, I will immediately petition the Alpha Council for sole custody of our children p>

My chest felt heavy, my eyes locked on those words on the screen. The moment I saw the email, any feeling of control disappeared. My thoughts froze like a winter scene, and I couldn’t breathe right.

“How the hell did you miss this?” I shouted, unable to hold back my anger. “What kind of security operation are you running? Get out there and verify everything p>

The email had hit me out of nowhere, breaking the small bit of balance I’d managed to hold since the boys got sick.

At the office door, I saw a bit of movement. Zeon, in his hurry, hadn’t fully shut the door. Clara stood there, holding her designer handbag, her face pale as she listened to what we were saying.

Before Zeon could leave, Clara rushed into my office and dropped to her knees in front of me.

“Cal, I’m so sorry!” she sobbed, tears falling down her perfectly done face. “I’m sorry for what happened to the children p>

Her voice shook as she kept going, “Rocco poisoned little Rowan and Rhys to pressure me into signing over my shares. He was trying to gain control of the family assets p>

She cried hard, her whole body shaking as if with regret. “It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have let him know how much I care about the boys. If I’d known this would happen, I would have stayed far away from them p>

My expression stayed cold, showing none of the emotions burning inside me.

Clara looked more and more uneasy at my silence. After I gave a small nod, Zeon stepped forward to help her up.

“Miss Whitmore, please rise while you speak,” he said formally.

Clara’s eyes, full of tears, met mine. “Cal, please believe me. I truly had no idea Rocco was involved in this p>

My face stayed still, hiding the storm inside me. Rowan and Rhys were my clear line. Anyone who tried to hurt them would pay the price. No one was above that.

Seeing the cold look in my eyes, Clara bit her lip and pulled a small silver knife from her purse. Before anyone could stop her, she drove it into her chest. Blood quickly spread across her clothes and dripped onto the carpet.

“Cal, I’ll trade my life for the children’s,” she cried desperately. “Please don’t shut me out p>
