Chapter 67
Evelyn’s POV
“Evelyn,”He called,”Where are you taking them p>
Calvin stared at our children, worry clear in his eyes.
“Are Rowan and Rhys okay?” he asked, ignoring my sharp tone. His warm hand grabbed mine, making my skin tingle.
“If you keep stopping me, they won’t be p>
I kept my face cold, fighting my body’s reaction to his touch.
His dark eyes narrowed at the helicopter. It was from my Evelink Biosciences lab, made for emergency transport.
When I arrived to rescue the children, they were in a deep coma, not responding to my calls.I checked their pulse and breathing right away. Their symptoms were exactly like the last poisoning at preschool.
Clara, that cruel woman, had poisoned my children again.
But this time seemed worse. I had a bad feeling. The last tests showed LDS mixed with Wolf Instinct Suppression.I’d asked Gary to research it. I wondered if he’d found anything.
I tried to carry the children away, but though Calvin held my wrist gently, he wouldn’t let go.
“I’m their father,” he said firmly. “You can’t keep pushing me away, Evelyn. I love those boys as much as you do p>
He moved closer, blocking the moonlight. “Either the children stay here, or I come with you p>
The helicopter’s noise filled the night, mixing with my racing heart.
I hesitated. Taking him to Evelink lab meant risking my secret. I was fighting my pride. But for our sons, I let Calvin come to the Evelink labs.
As we got in, I looked back at Eryx. I secretly signaled him to make sure the lab staff wouldn’t reveal my identity.
He nodded at me, and Calvin saw it. His dark eyes caught everything, his jaw tight as he held Rhys.
In a black car behind Calvin’s, Clara watched us with anger as I carried Rowan. That woman had always meant trouble.
“Clara Whitmore, if anything happens to my sons, I’ll make you suffer. Even if Calvin protects you, I’ll drag you to hell,” I threatened as I passed her.
Her face went white instantly.
As we started to close the door, Clara ran to us without a coat, trying to get Calvin’s sympathy with her act. In her white dress against the dark, she looked like a ghost full of hate.
But she only took a few steps before falling to the ground.
“Your Clara just fell,” I said coldly. “Aren’t you going to help her p>
Calvin looked at me calmly. “You don’t want me to go to her. Why say things to hurt us both p>
I had no answer to that.
He covered our sleeping boys with a blanket, moving closer to me. His scent of pine and winter air brought back memories I wanted to forget. I moved away slightly, and he noticed. His eyes went dark, making his handsome face more striking.
He saw how tired I looked. He started to speak but stopped. We sat in silence as we went up.
The helicopter took off, leaving everyone below behind.
I saw Calvin close his eyes, breathing steady. I held Rowan tighter and let my eyes close too. After flying from overseas, this emergency trip, and yesterday’s surgery, I was so tired.
I couldn’t stay awake, but I kept holding my son tight.
We flew to the airport where Evelink’s medical jet waited. We reached the lab as the sun came up.
Rowan and Rhys woke up in our arms, but they were very weak. Anya came running with doctors and stretchers.
“Ms. Blackwell, Professor Gray got your message. We’ll take care of the boys,” Anya said. “We’ll do our best for them p>
I nodded, putting Rowan on a stretcher while Calvin did the same with Rhys. The doctors took them away for tests.
Anya looked at Calvin then back to me. “Ms. Blackwell, the professor wants to see you p>
This was the excuse I’d arranged to get away from Calvin.
I changed into lab clothes and checked our sons. The team knew Rowan and Rhys from their recent checkups. No one thought they’d be back so soon.
“Dr. Blackwell, we have the results!” Gary ran over. “The poison levels are critical this time p>
My blood went cold as I read the report, crushing it in my hand. The LDS mixed with Wolf Instinct Suppression was much stronger than last time.
“We need to develop a new treatment,” I told Gary quietly. “One that can restore both their mental functions and their wolf bond p>
When I went back to waiting, Calvin saw my face right away. I looked even more tired now.
A doctor came out to tell Calvin about our sons.
“It’s a mix of LDS and a wolf suppression drug p>
“The dose is much higher than their last poisoning p>
“If they came in any later, they might lose their wolf connection permanently. It’s attacking both their minds and wolf instincts p>
I watched Calvin take in the news. His dark eyes went wide, then filled with anger. He looked at me, seeing I already knew.
After Rowan and Rhys were in their room, I sat with them, worried and sorry.
After a while, I asked Calvin to step outside.I gave him Lillian’s recorded confession.
He listened to the proof about Clara and the Calypso Pack, his face in shadow under the lights.
“I’ll look into this fully,” Calvin said coldly.
I sent the recording to his email without saying more. I didn’t show what I thought he should do about it.
“There’s a rest room next door if you need sleep,” I said as I walked past.
He caught my arm, his tired voice deep. “Where are you going p>
“Back to the boys’ room p>
“You should rest. I’ll watch them p>
We both ended up staying in their room. I lay on the sofa with my eyes closed while Calvin sat by their beds.
Half asleep, I sensed Calvin’s presence. Through my hazy consciousness, I felt him lift me gently and place me on the sofa. The warmth of the blanket he laid over me followed.
I frowned in my sleep, turning over but not waking.
Through my clouded awareness,I could feel Calvin watching me, his emotions hidden. Then I sensed him kneeling beside me p>
When I woke up, Calvin was gone. I checked Rowan and Rhys. They looked better and might wake up soon.
It was almost lunch time. After waiting but not seeing Calvin, I decided to go change upstairs.
I called Emma to watch the boys, but she came with surprising news.
