But in the six months since she gave birth, they’ve become more and more frequent— about once a month now. The last one must have happened around two weeks ago p>
Jennifer nodded vigorously. “Yes, exactly! It was two weeks ago p>
That recent episode was why Celia even dared attend the party tonight.
Who could have guessed another seizure would strike so soon?
It was uncanny.
Caitlin was nothing short of miraculous.
She’d only checked Celia’s pulse, yet she seemed to understand her condition inside and out.
Just then, Sutton arrived with the medical kit. Knowing it was inappropriate for him
to enter the room, he called out from outside, “Freya, I’m sliding the kit under the door for you p>
“Thank you, Sutton,” Caitlin replied.
Jennifer quickly grabbed the kit as it was passed in.
“Open it up and hand me my tongue depressor,” Caitlin instructed.
“Of course p>
Jennifer found it instantly and handed it over.
With the depressor, Caitlin gently eased Celia’s jaw open, then reached for her acupuncture roll.
Jennifer handed her a piece of sterile gauze. “Miss Gonzales, please tend to your wound first p>
“It’s just a scratch. I’m not in any danger-helping Celia comes first,” Caitlin said, unconcerned about the cut on her wrist. “Use the scissors to cut open her dress at the collar it’s too tight and could make it hard for her to breathe p>
“Right.” Jennifer nodded and carefully did as instructed.
Caitlin set to work, her movements swift and precise. In no time, fine silver
needles glinted under the light, perfectly placed at critical points.
When she finished, Caitlin took a sterile wipe and gently cleaned the mess from Celia’s cheeks.
Jennifer crouched beside her, overwhelmed by a tangled rush of feelings.
Whenever Celia had an episode, she would vomit, and anyone cleaning up would usually show a trace of disgust.
But not Caitlin.
Not only was there no hint of revulsion-she was utterly focused, her expression nothing but calm determination.
Maybe… maybe they’d all been wrong about her from the start.
Maybe Caitlin wasn’t the kind of person people whispered about at all.
Soon, Celia’s eyelids fluttered, and she slowly came to.
Jennifer, barely holding back tears, exclaimed, “Miss Palmer! You’re awake! How are you feeling? You scared me half to death just now p>
Before, Jennifer’s eyes had only been red-she hadn’t dared to cry. Now, seeing Celia awake, she couldn’t hold back any longer. She hugged her tight, sobbing quietly.
“I’m fine, really. I’m okay.” Celia hugged her back, patting her gently, her voice soft and soothing.
Then she looked over at Caitlin.
