Trista stood up immediately. She didn’t have another second to waste on this man. The sheer force of her rejection made the air in the booth feel like it was freezing over.
“Don’t worry,” she said, looking down at Howard. Every word sounded like a lethal vow. “Even if every other male in this territory dropped dead, I would never crawl back to that rotting nest of a house to be with him. And do me a favor–keep a shorter leash on your Alpha. Tighten the collar so he stops wandering into my life like a pathetic, lost dog p>
She didn’t give Howard a chance to let out the low, threatening growl building in his throat. Trista shoved the door open and vanished into the hallway.
Behind her, she heard the heavy thud of a teacup being slammed onto the hardwood table followed by an old man’s furious roar, but she didn’t so much as stiffen her shoulders.
Back at the healing center, Trista barely had time to catch her breath back in her office before the heavy solid–wood door was pushed open.
The moment Tamara stepped inside, a thick, almost suffocating scent of expensive perfume tried to drown out the crisp herbal aroma of the room.
Trista’s sharp senses immediately picked up the undertones beneath the powder–the carefully polished pheromones of a high–tier she–wolf.
Trista glanced at the bloodline records on her desk. Looking at the woman in front of her–dripping in jewels and with skin so smooth it showed zero signs of aging–Trista arched a brow at the discrepancy between the woman’s visual appearance and her actual biological age.
“You’re Tamara?” Trista asked, maintaining her clinical detachment.
Tamara didn’t answer right away. Instead, she paced the small office like she was inspecting a conquered territory.
Her eyes, framed by sharp, perfect eyeliner, swept over the room with disgust before lingering on several of Trista’s “kill points.” She finally sat down with the effortless arrogance of a woman born into high–blood
status.
Trista followed protocol, her pen tapping lightly on her notebook. “How long has the insomnia been an issue? Have you taken any medication for it p>
Tamara cut her off, her voice dripping with vanity. “I’m not here for a checkup. I’m here to give you a warning p>
Trista’s fingers hovered over her keyboard.
She looked up, catching the unmistakable look of a predator staring down its prey.
She didn’t know this woman, but the aggressive Tundra energy coming off her put Trista on high alert.

“Make yourself clear,” Trista said, her tone turning cold as she leaned back in her chair.

Tamara idly toyed with the jade bracelet on her wrist, her gaze cutting through Trista like a blade. “I don’t care what kind of history you have with Cassian. It’s buried. I expect you to have some self–respect. Don’t think for a second you can use that face of yours to lure him into another bond p>
The comment was as blunt as it was cruel. Trista’s brow furrowed.
Tamara kept the pressure on, her voice turning grim. “The fact is, Rowena is about to bond with him. If you try to pull any stunts to mess with this alliance, I’ll personally make sure you’re run out of Los Angeles p>
Trista’s lips quirked into a mocking smirk.
So this was Rowena’s mother–Mrs. Porter.
She was really busy today. The Ironthorn and Tundra elders were literally lining up to take shots at her.
Trista stood up, shoving her hands into the pockets of her white lab coat. Her eyes were like ice.
She walked over to Tamara, her voice steady but powerful. “Mrs. Porter, if you’re in such a rush to have your daughter ‘pick up the trash, that’s your business. But this is my office. If you insult me again, I’m having you escorted out p>
Tamara was arrogant, but as the Luna of the Tundras, she wasn’t about to get into a screaming match.
She stood up, looking at Trista with pure sarcasm. “I’ve seen this ‘hard to get‘ routine before. You say he’s trash, yet Cassian nearly died trying to save you. How do you explain that p>
Trista gave her a deadpan, four–word answer. “The guy is pathetic p>
She looked Tamara right in the eyes. “He and I are done. The mateship is dead. I don’t care if you two get engaged or mated. If you’re so worried about it, go put a leash on Cassian. Don’t come here looking for a spotlight p>
Tamara stared at her for a few seconds before nodding, seemingly satisfied for now. “Remember what you said today p>
The second Tamara left, Xander knocked and walked in.
He glanced at the retreating figure in the hallway and lowered his voice. “Do you want me to handle that p>
Trista shook her head, exhausted.
“That woman is trouble,” Xander said, his expression serious. “The Tundras only cares about the bottom line. They’ve been eyeing Ironthorn long before you were out of the picture. Now that you’re gone, they won’t let anything mess up the deal. If Cassian keeps chasing you, Mrs. Porter will put that debt on your head p>
He looked at Trista intently. “If you run into trouble, call me p>
Trista let out a weary, frustrated laugh. “Alpha Xander, I just want some peace and quiet. I won’t go looking for a fight, but I’m not going to let people walk all over me, either p>
