Chapter 134
The car screeched to a halt, the tyres rolling on the grass for the last few seconds before it stopped.
A few seconds, and a pair of legs stepped down before moving to the back, opening it.
Another pair of legs joined him at the back, crawling out from the boot.
Soon Barton and Dora joined them, and they stood there staring at Daniel and Naomi, Dora with disinterest, Barton, curiosity.
Dora’s eyes looked bloodshot and dark, almost like she had crying recently- which she had. There was a lifeless look in her eyes, and she didn’t even mind that Barton was glancing at her from his side.
“Where the hell do we even start? We haven’t got time and Ruby Stone’s pack is still some miles away… ” he stopped mid way before turning to Dora. “Or do we make a stop at… “
“No,” her voice was croaky, and Naomi couldn’t help but stare at her, for the first time not with a sour expression or a forced neutral expression but a surprised look. She looked at Barton, probably for an explanation, but he just shook his head, implying he couldn’t tell her- at least not now, not here.
“Let’s just… go to Ruby Stone’s.” Her voice was stiff, and she folded her arms looking down.
Suddenly there was a call. Daniel hurriedly picked up, because all day today all his calls had been either urgent or very important with grave news.
What was the worst he could hear now.
“Daniel!” It was his aunt. Aunt Marcy
“Aunt?” He noted the panic in her voice, and his expression couldn’t help but turn dark. He heard screams in the background and something like an explosion.
“Aunt!” He heard a huger explosion, and the next minute, another shrill scream again. It wasn’t his aunt, but she didn’t say a word after uttering his name. A growl was heard, low and deep, and intimidating. It made his toes curl involuntarily and his hands turned sweaty.
The line went dead before he could say anymore word.
He reluctantly turned to the others who had been staring at him In expectancy, including Dora, waiting for an explanation from him.
His gaze moved to Naomi before moving somewhere as he reluctantly said in a low voice,
“I think Dark Risers’s is under attack p>
Naomi turned away to the car and buried her face in her hands, her shoulders trembling in fear.
“That was my mum who called. We have to go back… ” Barton sounded as serious as ever, not a hint of of the usual quirky smirk or amusement on his face.
Daniel turned to Naomi. His face was grim and grave as he walked towards her, only to spin around and see the red teary eyes. He sighed and leaned back.
“I don’t know why you’re crying!” Dora started, walking forward, moving Daniel aside so she could stand before Naomi.
“Your tears roll down your cheeks and you feel satisfied that we’re watching you cry? Do you want us to feel pity for you? My father was f**king killed minutes ago p>
“Dora.” Barton reached forward but she slapped his hand away only to look back up at Naomi.
She wasn’t even listening to the two men anymore and was only focused on pouring out her sorrows to the terrified woman before her.
“You don’t cry… You shouldn’t cry because this is what you wanted. The Kitsunes are all over the pack causing havoc and Killing people, wasting innocent lives!!! And you’re crying She grabbed Naomi by her hand and pulled her so that she wasn’t leaning against the car anymore but facing Dora squarely.
Naomi grabbed onto Dora’s wrist, trying to shake her hand off her grip, but Dora punched her when her nails pierced into her wrist in the struggle and she fell backwards, her hair down, covering her face.
“Dora that’s enough,” Barton grabbed her wrists and pulled her so that she was involuntarily in his embrace, no way to move.
Daniel just stared at Naomi on the floor, unsure of how to feel about Dora’s words, but yet her actions in the end.
His phone rings and his face grimaced as he picks it up.
“Where are you p>
It was Alpha Joseph.
“Still at Dark Risers’s pack.” Daniel replied, running his hand through his hair, nervous and frustrated.
“The f**k. What’s going on? I tried calling Alpha Koan but he isn’t picking up, I called the Silver Moon’s pack twin’s but they weren’t picking up as well, even Alpha Cardin isn’t picking up. Alpha Henry’s already been informed about the attack and has pack warriors around the area. I’m yet to arrive at his pack, I had to stop at Moon Howler’s pack, but he said you all have arrived yet. What the f**k is actually happening p>
Daniel put the pieces together easily. Usually, he’d be the one to arrive late at such meetings or important gatherings, but if Alpha Koan was late, and the rest happened to also not be available to pick up, it only means one thing p>
“I think we’re being watched p>
“What p>
“It only makes sense. The Kitsunes are watching us. Why do you think they killed the Alphas easily enough without having to even defend themselves. They are watching the Alphas. They know what we’re doing right now as I speak. They also know we’re all heading to Alpha Henry’s domain, so they’re trying to stop us. There’s a Kitsune rampaging in my pack, and I’m sure it’s the same for the rest p>
Alpha Joseph through about this for a moment before he sighed.
“I’ll try to reach them again. I’ll be heading to Ruby Stone’s pack. Come when you’re ready. No rush, okay son p>
“Yes Alpha Joseph p>
The line went dead, and he turned to see Naomi slowly standing. She would have stood up earlier, but Dora’s angry gaze, fixated on her face caused her legs to turn to jelly, so she was on the floor the entire time he was on he phone.
“Somehow, the Kitsunes have managed to surround the entire werewolf territory p>
“How?” It was Dora who asked, forgetting Barton had his arms around her.
“Well,” He starts to explain, grabbing Naomi’s hand to pull her up, and casually turned to her, only to freeze.
Barton wondered why he suddenly froze up like that, and looked past him to see Naomi also staring up at him in horror, hand dangling in the air- without her mask on!
“Oh f**k.” He whispered.
