Chapter 441
In true Ellen fashion she huffed and puffed because I had come all the way down here.
She was my gran, and I wanted to make sure she was okay.
“George told you to stay home Leah p>
I fought the urge to roll my eyes. If she caught me, l’d get an earful. But I wasn’t going to stay home when she was lying in hospital.
“I wanted to make sure you were okay. I knew something was up when we came for dinner and the house was in darkness p>
“Oh, shoot”. She made a face. “I forgot to text you and
let you know. It all happened so fast George just wanted to get me here and get me checked out p>
“Gran it’s fine and we can have dinner anytime. Has the doctor been back p>
“They don’t think anything is broken but I’m waiting to be taken for an x-ray just to be sure. You should go home; I could be here for hours before I’m seen to p>
“I don’t mind being here or waiting for hours”. I spoke.
“Well, I do. It’s late and I’m sure you have better things to do than sit here all night p>
“I called Aunt Claire; she should be here soon p>
“I called your Aunt Claire and told her to stay put. I want you to go home Leah and I’ll call you in the morning p>
“I think it’s best we let your gran rest”. George spoke.
“If anything changes, you’ll be the first one I call p>
Why did I get the feeling they didn’t want me here?
Brushing it off I agreed to go home and wait for her to call me. I clipped my seatbelt into place as Jake drove us home.
“Are you okay?”. He asked.
“Just tired”. I wasn’t going to get into it with him. He didn’t need to know that my mind was working overtime.
“Your gran will be fine babe. Nothing for you to worry about”. He reached over placing his hand on my knee.
She seemed fine but I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to it. But again, I said nothing and gave him a nod. Maybe keeping my mouth shut and my thoughts to myself was the way to go.
I’m pretty sure Jake was tired of my conspiracy theories when something didn’t sit right with me. Heck was tired of them. My mind never stopped.
We made it home in no time. I was changing into my pjs when Jake emerged from the bathroom.
“A sight I’ll never get sick of seeing”. He grinned.
A laugh fell from my lips as I pulled my top over my head and down my body. “This tea tomorrow are you going to be there?” l asked.
“Not really my scene”. He made a face. “Besides it’s you my gran wants to see p>
Why? Why did she want to see me? Did they enjoy having my nerves shattered? But again, that was just how my brain worked. I always thought the worst in these situations.
It’s not like we didn’t get along or she didn’t like me.
Our last engagement was fun and relaxed and yet I still couldn’t help the nerves.
“I thought you were her favourite?”. I asked.
“I am”. He winked. “And I’ll see her tomorrow night at dinner”
“So, we’re going to your parents for dinner p>
He nodded. “My grans in town so of course my mom has to have a family dinner p>
In true Charlotte style. Can’t say I expected anything less.
“I always get nervous when you’re not there”. I pulled the covers back and got into bed. “I tell myself I’ve nothing to be nervous about but I still am. Even now my stomachs in knots p>
