“Stalling”. I made a face. “Your gran makes me nervous”. There was no point in beating around the bush.
“Why?”. He frowned.
I shrugged. “I’ve only met her that one time. What if she suddenly doesn’t like me anymore p>
A laugh fell from his lips. “Babe, she adores you and she asks about you all the time. You’ve nothing to worry about trust me p>
I don’t know why but I still get nervous around his family especially his gran. Even after all this time I still felt a little uncomfortable. Feeling out of place and like I didn’t belong still played on my mind.
“What are you going to do about that boy p>
“What can we do?”. He sighed. “Can’t keep him here, he isn’t talking so once his leg is healed, he can leave p>
“What if he doesn’t have anyone p>
“He must have come from somewhere and if he won’t talk to us then we have no other choice p>
“Were you nice to him?”. I asked.
“What do you mean?”. He frowned. “I’m always nice p>
I made a face.
“He’s a kid Leah, of course, I was nice to him p>
“Okay, okay”. I held my hands up. “Do you want me to try and talk to him p>
“You think I’m overreacting, don’t you p>
“No”. I shook my head. “I get that you want everyone to be safe and for our territory to be safe but he’s a kid Jake and I think maybe he’s just lost p>
“So, you do think I’m overreacting. I’ll get the guys to patrol tonight and if they don’t find anything suspicious or out of the ordinary then I’ll let it go p>
“I still think you should let me talk to him p>
“Fine”. He sighed. “Let me shower and eat and then we’ll head over p>
I didn’t get the chance to talk to him. Jacob had taken it upon himself to find out more. He asked around, apparently had contacts everywhere. The boy was a runaway, thrown around the foster care system.
Ran away from the care home he was currently placed in.
“His names Noah”. Jacob spoke.
“How did you know he was a werewolf?”. I asked.
Of course, my question managed to silence the full room.
“He hasn’t shifted yet so how did you know?”. I frowned.
“You’re joking right?”. Alanna laughed.
Now I’d wished I had kept my mouth shut. Why did I suddenly feel stupid?
“His scent”. Jacob spoke. “He may not have shifted yet, but his wolf is there. He knows what he is. They’ve connected very well p>
“Oh, okay”. I was keeping my mouth shut from now on. I should know this stuff and yet I was still as clueless as the day I found out. How come they couldn’t tell I was a wolf straight away?
I bit the inside of my cheek and took myself away into the kitchen. The room was full of pack members I doubt they’d realise I was gone. I made myself a cup of coffee before slipping out back.
Clearly, I hadn’t connected with my wolf at all. I wasn’t even sure she was still there. I hadn’t shifted in months; I couldn’t feel her at all. Was it possible for her to die?
I wanted to punch myself in the throat for even thinking that. She was me and I was very much alive. Sighing I ran a hand down my face. Why was everything so complicated when it came to my wolf.
Maybe I wasn’t meant to be one. Maybe the moon goddess got it wrong. Or maybe I needed to take my head out of my ass and stop making excuses. I needed to work on getting to know my wolf. I had to find the connection between us.
She was in there and I needed to pull her out.
